Another starter going on the trade market, and more talk of the Yankees being connected to him. Jon Morosi of Fox reports that the Astros have made ace Wandy Rodriguez available in trade talks, and the Yankees are one of the teams who were on hand to scout his last start Tuesday night. Rodriguez is pitching to a shiny 3.29 ERA in the N.L. Central, but that’s backed up by a much less pretty FIP of 4.16. The discrepancy mostly comes from Rodriguez’s lack of strikeouts, as the lefty has a K/9 of just 5.74 and is seeing a decrease in his strikeout rate for the third consecutive season. The Yankees were rumored to be interested in Rodriguez at last year’s deadline as well, but found the cost prohibitive. In addition to whatever prospects Houston would want to receive in return, Rodriguez is owed $13 million next year, and his $13 million club option for 2014 becomes a player option if he’s traded.
