All right, I’ll just go ahead and admit it: I hate the All-Star break. Not the game itself, which is still a fun little diversion from the grind of a six month long regular season. Not the Home Run Derby either, even though I find it to be pretty boring, as I recognize that I’m not exactly the target audience for that event. And I actually really enjoy the Future’s Game, even if I wish they’d move it to Wednesday when there’s nothing else going on rather than putting it up against real baseball games on the Sunday before the break.

No, what I can’t stand is the dog and pony show that we engage in every year leading up to this half-week break in meaningful games.

C.C. Sabathia is slated to return from the disabled list soon after the All-Star game this coming Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean that you should expect to see him immediately following the break. Instead, Sabathia will return at the back end of the team’s first turn through the rotation, according to Brian Cashman. He would be slated to start in the Yankees second series of the second half, against the Toronto Blue Jays. That would give Sabathia 3-4 more days to heal his strained groin, while allowing the Yankees to continue to carry 14 position players for a few extra days as well.
