    The last time the Yankees came to Oakland they swept the Athletics in three games. That won’t be happening on this trip, however, as Freddy Garcia dug the team into an early hole they were unable to climb out of and Oakland notched their first victory over the Yankees this season 4-3.

    Major League Baseball held their first competitive balance lottery again yesterday, a blind pick in which small market/low revenue franchises can win extra picks in next year’s amateur draft, and the Tampa Bay Rays did not win any picks. That’s okay though, because apparently baseball is so unfair to the poor also rans in St. Pete that it doesn’t make any difference.

    Every year it seems that the story of the trade deadline is the same: pitching, pitching, pitching. This year isn’t much different, as Cole Hamels and Zack Greinke are drawing major headlines and the Yankees are being connected to lesser talents like Francisco Liriano and Wandy Rodriguez, but for the most part speculation about the Yankees dealing for an extra starter has been surprisingly muted once the immediate aftermath of the injuries to Andy Pettitte and C.C. Sabathia passed. There’s a perfectly logical explanation for that though: the Yankees just don’t need any extra pitching right now.
