This will be our thread for trade talk, smack talk, and other fun talk related to our fantasy hockey league. As a reminder, our draft will take place on Saturday, September 30th at Noon. I am willing to take DiPietrio. He had a much better game tonight, and I expect him to be just fine. That is pretty hilarious, with the Sean Avery comment. But the absolute understatement of the night is to say that Brendan Shanahan has lost a step or two. He looks like he is in slo-mo out there. That is really hilarious. (Please make sure to reference that he had an assist tonight, because hockey is all about that stat sheet for you.)

Actually, I thought I'd never know and that it was cool that I didn't have any idea what this stuff means, but maybe you could tell me.

What the heck is +/- and PIM as far as stat categories?!

I think we have the rest of it figured out, but I've just gone all season (1st place, btw) just knowing that you want to be + and a higher PIM number is good.

+/- is the amount of even-strength goals for and against when a particular player is on the ice. For example, if Wade Belak is on the ice for 85 even-strength goals against his team and on the ice during four goals for his team, he is a minus 81. If Jordan Staal is on the ice for 85 goals for his team, and 25 against, he is a plus 60.

PIM is penalty minutes.

I haven't been checking as much as I should. I moved across the country and I was computerless for more than a month....plus, I just found out the other day that I could set my team in advance, and don't have to do it every day. I'm a bit of a luddite;)

And I shouldn't say we don't like hockey, it's just that we never had a high school team in our area and the general interest level here wasn't there, and we don't really get the rules, except for the obvious "put the puck in the net".

Also, I apologize for not being a visible Commish this season. Given the recent birth of my daughter and the impending move to New Jersey, I have not been very involved. It also explains why I am not doing well. However, I will definitely be involved next year, so we can do this again. Thanks for understanding.

Last year, we carried some dead weight (in the form of managers not checking their team for months) and I don't want to go through that again. I expect all of the managers to be involved in our league as much as possible. If you know that you will slack halfway through the season, then you will be a determent to our league. Now that I have gotten that out of the way, I'm ready to kick some sloppy asses!

Random, courtesy of one of my dogs who went around and sniffed the pieces of paper with names of teams on it. It's a technique that has been used in my fantasy leagues for years; just ask AnaheimDux of Anaheim in our league! :D

I have postponed the draft two weeks. I had received emails from a couple of you stating that you were unable to attend. I am also unable to attend since I am currently in Pittsburgh and I won't have computer access tonight. In addition, one team currently in the league will not be able to participate all season long. There, I need one more person to set the league. If you know anyone, please send him/her the registration info. The new date for the draft is Saturday, Sept. 22 @ 8:00pm. Any questions, please PM me. Special thanks to BB for changing the date of the draft. I hated to be a complaining Jew :P , but Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year for us and between spending all day at services in the City and fasting, I wouldn't know a Lundqvist from a Tellqvist. Oy! :D

One year in college, I fasted with my friends for Yom Kippur. It was intense, but I saw how important it was for my friends. After that, I was made an honorary Jew by them. I got to go to temple with them, and even got to meet a very nice, pretty Jewish girl :)

If we're going to do this again next year let's implement a rule change (change to roto format, weekly transaction, or lock rosters prior to playoffs) to prevent any controversy over streaming players.
