Dear Mr. A-Rod (http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/8023):

I think I speak for the great majority of Yankees (http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/page/NYY) fans, if not most denizens of the western hemisphere, when I say that I don't much care for you.

This is a trend for sportswriters.

Bash A-Rod, get your name out there.

So I'm calling on you to ditch the just-one-of-the-guys pretense and embrace your inner Mike Tyson. On the field, stay the course. Off it, it's time for an extreme makeover, but with fewer "reveals" and more thunderous profanity within earshot of cancer-stricken kids. You can be a driven superstar for four hours every day and a liquored-up, late-night-diner pugilist the other 20. Just ask David Wells.

Right..

I understand what he is saying, I mean most Yankee fans would trade all the world championships for a-rod to change his demeanor, wouldn't they?
This is kind of uncalled for, looks like he was trying to draw some attention to himself...

The bashing A-rod part doesn't piss me off. But

It's because you've never seen an athlete make so much money.

Remember, outside of about 5-8 sportswriters, all the rest are living check to check and just trying to make up the most sensational crap they can. So they see a guy who makes their salary for the year in a week, and on top of that he has a stable family and no skeletons, then they have to attack.

So Arod needs to act like a moron for this guy to like him? What a joke. The press is constantly ripping athletes for acting immature and doing stupid things. now Arods is too nice and clean. The guy plays some of the best baseball you will ever watch in your lifetime and this idiot dislikes him because he answers the same the question the same way each time.

A-Rod makes more per hit then I make in 2 years.

Alex Rodriguez makes nowhere near the $80 million a year Tiger Woods makes playing golf. If you consider golfers to be athletes.

I laughed in a few places too.... What I didn't like was the mention of Rivera being a robot at the end of the article. That can be taken the wrong way and with the subject of the column, I took it the wrong way at first...

Well, normally, if you write something about a person as popular as A-Rod, you are going to get people talking about it.

Does anyone think that if an article is written about <insert player name here> wearing women's underwear, it won't get talked about?

Come on.... That's what these writers do. Draw up interest, whether good or bad, so that the knuckleheads of the world will buy their product. And by saying negative things about a hero, well, that gets everyone's panties in a bunch.... Both haters and lovers.

I think the general consensus is that this Dobrow guy knows very little about baseball, is a complete moron, and is a freelance sports writer for a semi-pornographic magazine!

So true...

Why? It's the truth. Everyone's focused on being reactionary in every board and they don't take the time and assimilate what the writer is saying. If you really think about it, with every little advice to a-Rod he is basically saying (act like so and so) and you'll be liked.

Also, people are calling Dobrow all sorts of names like A hole and bashing him when all he is trying to do is open people's eyes. And even after I and others have pointed out the nature of the article, people still don't get it.

That's sad. It says a LOT about our reading comprehension levels and what we are learning in our schools.

That's sad. It says a LOT about our reading comprehension levels and what we are learning in our schools.I know you have said that the article is intended to be tongue-in-cheek and I agree to a point but I still think it is mean-spirited and that Larry Dobrow is really just one more Arod basher no matter how you want to spin it.

When someone starts an article with "Dear Mr. A-Rod: I think I speak for the great majority of Yankees fans, if not most denizens of the western hemisphere, when I say that I don't much care for you." I am hard pressed to believe that the rest of the article is intended to be helpful. He then proceeds to make thinly disquised disparaging remarks about Jeter, Sheffield, Giambi and Rivera.

You know, maybe you are right. Maybe Dobrow is not an Arod basher but just one more Yankee hater with a byline.

What makes you so sure that the article is meant to be sarcastic?

Because, no one would actually advise an athlete to start drinking, breaking the law, and creating divisions amongs his teammates publicly. That would go against the media sing song about teamwork and teamguy and blah blah blah.

Check his wording of things. The fact that he mocks the fact that all Jeter has to do is breathe for people to swear that it was an act of God in order to make the world a better place.

The fact that he is quoting the idolatry of the Yankees fan base for guys like David Wells.

It's very easy to see this story drapping of sarcasm and mockery of people's constant attacks on this guy. Again, it's about reading and assimilating what the article is saying. Not about reacting to the what you read without analyzing it.

I agree, as a matter of fact, I am VERY shocked. This article is so clearly satirical that I don't see how anyone could think it was supposed to be his real opinion.

I think the whole point is that we have athletes like Bonds & T.O. that everyone wonders "how can he be like that" & then on the other hand, players that do their job, try to say the right thing, etc. get nailed too. He intersperses his jabs with facts that people never mention when they knock him:

For some, it was the 2005 playoff no-show (these people ignore the six walks you drew in five games, which would seem to shift a bit of the blame to the fellas behind you in the order). For others, it was the Slappy McSlapRod incident against the Red Sox in 2004 (never mind your Ruthian 1.014 OPS in the postseason that year, nor your near-solo annihilation of the Twins in the divisional round).

There is absolutely NO pro-Boston sentiment in the article whatsoever!!

A-Rod draws a lit of criticism for any little thing he does or doesn't do. I agree that he is a little antiseptic but if that's the biggest knock, I say that aint too shabby.
