After years of being indirectly involved with Hip-Hop music, actor/pop singer Patrick Swayze is finally experimenting with rap music.

Swayze recently said he was experimenting with “rap rhythms as an emotional undercurrent for ballads.”

The 53-year-old Swayze had a massive hit with the song “She’s Like The Wind” from the soundtrack to the film "Dirty Dancing" in 1987.

The song is one of the most played songs in the history of radio and helped the Dirty Dancing soundtrack sell over 11 million records.

Hip-Hop fans are familiar with Swayze, who has starred in such classic movies as “Red Dawn,” “Roadhouse,” “The Outsiders” and “Ghost.”

Swayze’s last name has been used as Hip-Hop slang since the early 1990’s, when EPMD popularized the term on various albums.

In U.S. rap vernacular, the term "Swayze" means to “leave” or “disappear,” cleverly derived from the title of his 1990 hit film “Ghost.”

You heard it hear first. My how the mighty have fallen.

Just because your name is used as hip hop slang does not mean that you can put out a rap album.

Does he really believe people in the rap community will take a rich, white, chick-flick actor from Texas seriously?

A friend of mine has this album. Ethel Merman's disco versions of "There's No Business Like Show Business" and "I Got Rhythm" are, well, appalling.

As part of this continuing discussion, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this fine singer either...

No, not really. She wasn't even one of the first few artists played on MTV. She certainly helped to define it's influence on pop culture, but not until her Like a Virgin album which came out in 1984-5. The artists who were really responsible for creating MTV were the British new wave bands that actually had videos out in 1981-2.

Actually, no. The only video of hers I've seen on MTV recently is Hung Up, but that's slowly going out of circulation at the moment.

Before her current album, Madonna didn't have a video played on MTV in a long time. She was relevant enough to MTV's target demographic for them to bother putting even her older videos into rotation.

90% of what they play is sh*t. It's all that rap monstrosity, kiddie pop, and pseudo-pop-punk-emo-"my life is crap" music.

MTV used to be cool. MTV used to be an awesome place to watch music videos. Now, you'll be lucky if you see more than 3 in row because of some new dumbass programming they have lined up.

Not so much sh!t music (although some of it is) as much as sh!t programming. TRL is the biggest joke on tv. They play 15 seconds of a song and then pan to a bunch of screaming highschool girls.

Every now and again, they'll play a video from an artist with talent, but it's few and far between anymore. We have to sit through the newest P. Diddy video and then the latest abomination from Hillary Duff.

Madonna, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera (the only one from that teen-pop set with any talent at all), Janet Jackson (whenever she releases something), maybe a video from olden days, you know.....early 90s......stuff like that.

I thought I saw a video from En Vogue a while back, but it was like 2:30 in the morning.
