Ok, so now that this season is over, what do I win ;), anyways seriously by what date do we need to have our keepers, when can/do we open up discussions for possible rule changes, etc... I have my keepers ready and would be willing to post by the end of the week if necessary, though that is a little premature. So whatever just want to get these things out there.

Wow...I still don't have my keepers finalized. It's surprisingly difficult when you look at the dough that comes out of your $260 purse at the auction...

The Empire is currently making a decision on giving "The Franchise" Mr David Wright a 3 year deal. It may be expensive but considering he's about a $25 player now, batting between Delgado and Floyd will make him a monster, and I think it will pay off.

oh, n/m. the 93 was total. duh.

interesting as in moronic? or interesting as in I'm taking a chance that might pay off?

Interesting as in he's probably going to be worth it, but it's still expensive.

3rd base isn't an overly productive position, and considering where he wil be in the batting order, and considering he's broken the top 10 in many mock drafts I've seen, I'm gonna stay true to his name. He is going to be the Empire's franchise guy.

I'm still a bit confused by the keeper process, I have a list of about 6-8 guys I want to keep for 2006 at the price I acquired them in 2005. What is the whole long-term contract thing about?

Basically you must keep at least 7 players for at least a one year contract in which the player would retain their 2005 salary, you are also able to keep up to 12 players. If you wish to sign a player to a long term contract the maximum is 3 years and the value of the contract is designated by the following equation: salary = (# of years)*($4)+(2005 salary). Basically if you drafted a player at $5 the salaries are as follows:
1 yr. Contract = $5 for 2006
2 yr. Contract = $13 for 2006 and 2007
3 yr. Contract = $17 for 2006 and 2007 and 2008

at least I think I'm right :uhh:

Who are the three after that?

Squeakawatts; The Rain King; and Notorious B.I.G. Units are not returning, I think.
That leaves The Corporation, then two expanision teams.

Nope. You inherit the team and must keep 7 to 12 of the players. Why give them an advantage of starting fresh? Some teams returning might not have 7 decent keepers, but they still need to keep someone.

yes, $260.
The way I think we're going to do it in the auction is like this...you nominate your own keeper, at the salary you're going to pay him, and we let the clock expire and you get him. It should go really quick, as long as everyone pays attention to who is a keeper and doesn't bid.
Obviously, we will deal with keepers first in the auction.

Contracts:

Berkman - 3 Years, $21

Another clarification question:

Minor leaguers that were drafted last year had a value of $5. I activated Zach Duke during the season. Is his keeper price $5 plus (yrs*$4)? Meaning a three year contract would be $17 for 2006, 2007, & 2008?

Yes...minimum 7, maximum 12.
Salaries are on your roster page. Last year was the first year, so nobody has a long term contract, yet.

The deal is: You can either...

1) Renew a player's contract. The salary stays the same, but after the season ends you CANNOT sign him to a long-term deal.

2) Sign a player to a long-term deal. Deals are capped at 4 years. Salaries increase by $4 for EACH of the years of the deal. So...if you are keeping a $1 player for 4 years, his salary is $17 each year (4 years/$68). A $1 player for 2 years is $9 a year (2 years/$18), for 3 years is $13 (3 years/$39).

For minor leaguers who still have eligibility but are expected to be on the big league roster this year; i.e. Jason Kubel and Ian Kinsler am I forced to use a keeper on them? Theoretically I could keep them in the minors until they are on the roster for the 10 days of regular season play, but I want to make sure that these guys are staying on my team and I'm not using a keeper on them...

You can use a minor league keeper on them. They are not in the majors until the season starts.

I thought we changed the rule to match that of the original league here...that you don't need to promote someone from the minors, but once you promote them they can't be demoted until they are demoted in real life.

Here is my initial list and possible contract lengths, I'm still working on the values and lengths.
Brian Roberts - 1 yr. - $1
Ken Griffey - 1 yr. - $10
Chad Tracy - 1 yr. - $10
Scott Kazmir - 1 yr. - $10
Gustavo Chacin - 1 yr. - $10
Noah Lowry - 1 yr. - $10
Joe Blanton - 1 yr. - $10
Casey Kotchman - 2 yr. - $13
Jason Giambi - 1 yr. - $17
BJ Ryan - 2 yr. - $17
Dan Haren - 2 yr. - $18
Mark Teixeira - 1 yr. - $30

I am relying on Kinsler making the Rangers at 2nd, I'm also pretty sure that Kubel will be with the Twins at the start of the season. That's 2 other spots I may not be worrying about this year.

Could we set an earlier deadline for keepers? Like, say a week before the auction?

It helps to prepare if you can actually see who is available.
