Does anyone know anything about this guy? He's playing OF for the Clippers and his numbers so far are really impressive:

PLAYER AVG G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB SLG% OBP%
------ --- - -- - - -- -- -- -- --- -- --

Perez .328 28 116 18 38 72 7 3 7 23 3 21 6 .621 .358

He's had 477 AB with Tor., Sea., and Mon. since '94, batting .256 with 8 HRs. His best season in the bigs was with Tor. in '96, when in 202 ABs he batted .327 with 21 RBI, 10 2B, and 30 runs scored.
I wonder what has made this 31 year olds' bat come alive this season?

Hitting in front of Nick Johnson can't do much but help him...

Sounds like a 4-A player. Either that, or he plays horrible defense.

He was in Spring Training in Tampa. I think he was a non-roster invite.

There's a difference in the pitchers you face in the minors as opposed to the ones you face in the major leagues...

Ryan Thompson had very gaudy stats last year at Columbus...

He's been around awhile - the Yanks got him because he was a six-year minor league free agent. He'd done well in the Blue Jays organization, and was an all-star in the Southern League (whatever level that is) either last year or the year before. Seems talented, but he's not a young prospect.

Can he play CF ?

Because Mike Coleman can't even hit a Single A curveball let alone a Major League one.

This guy is useless.
