I just did a little research on Donzell. He's a switch-hitting 25 yr. old speedy Center Fielder. He sounds like just what we need right now. He was going to make the roster over H-Rod, but came down with a groin injury (which is now healed).
In the Arizona Fall League last year he made the All Prospect List. In 127 AB he hit .354, led the League in hits with 45, 5 triples, 18BB, 18 SB, 29 runs scored with an OBP of .435 and SLG of .543.
Why don't we replace H-Rod with Donzell now that he's healthy?

McDonald has the same batting stance as Tony Fernandez. He's a medium sized guy with speed, but i guess anythings better than clay bellinger.

Someone already posted here that Bernie called this morning and said he was staying in PR, right? If that's the case, then I think we should deactivate him and bring up McDonald. I'd rather have him starting than Bellinger, and even if start Clay, I'd rather have McDonald as a late inning CF than Brosius.

In the MSG postgame, Michael Kay reported the following update on Centerfield:
Torre received a message from Bernie this morning saying his father was not improving...he did not say much more. Bernie left his cell phone on the plane when he left Kansas City so they haven't had a direct line to reach him. They just now got a phone number where they can get messages to him.
Torre said Coleman could be ready to play CF as early as Wednesday if Bernie thinks he will be back soon. If Bernie will be gone for more than 5 days, then they would put him on the DL and bring up Donzell McDonald.
Sounds like a plan to me...

I am sorry to hear about Bernie's dad. At this point I think they need an idea of how long he thinks he will be out for. I actually posted somewhere about Donzell last night and it certianly wouldn't hurt us any.
What bad timing to have Bernie, Coleman, Spencer and HRod all done at once. Who would have thought that the o/f is where we would actually be short?!
Donzell McDonald, if healthy, is ready for a chance to show what he can do in the big league.
It sounds to me like Bernie's stay with his father may be extended.
The man is fighting for his life, for God's sake.
Make a move. And get us a centerfielder, from the minors or give Seabol a chance to get his bat in the line-up. He practiced in the oufield this past spring. I saw him with my own two eyes.
My point is that, Clay was not given a spot on the roster so he could get 4 or 5 ABs game after game, under any circumstances.
Yankee management needs to quit dragging it's feet on this issue, and address it promptly!
For my one-cent, I call up the switch-hitter McDonald. Then adjust as usual, as DL rules apply.
I would even give the youngster a shot at the lead-off spot. Letting Chuck bat 9th, if you get my drift.
