And it sounds like it hurt. Both left groin muscles torn off the bone.

Translation for Jets fans here. One less AFC playoff contender to compete for a wildcard spot.

As for this Bronco fan. It's a good thing that my pool gives me an interest in all games, because it's going to be a long year for Denver.:(

I wouldn't count them out just yet. Shanahan will work it out, I think.

Maybe, but one has to wonder how many key players lost it will take before ownership decides that the massive profits that they make by including the preseason in season ticket packages while paying players only 900$ per game just isn't worth it?&po'd&

You lost me. Paying players only $900 per game? I'm not sure what you're talking about here.

I just didn't truly understand the Portis - Bailey trade. I talked to my Bro about it a LOT too. (He's a Bronco Fan). Shanahan is far from a dummy. They must have liked some things they saw on their team to actually trade one of the best RBs in the League for a defensive back, even if he is a great one.

A solid RB can turn around a franchise. I just don't understand the trade. Maybe things will make more sense when the games count and see how the Broncos fare.

It shouldn't hurt them that much. Griffin is starting, and they still have Hearst and Bell.

Shanahan believes with his O line he can turn any back into a 1500 yard player...plus I believe Portis was crying about his contract...and add the fact their passing D needed help....

As I understand it, all players, regardless of contract status are payed 900$ for their participation in preseason contests as stipulated in the current CBA. Peyton Manning and the fourth team walk on kicker both get 900 bucks for preseason games. So, for the first preseason game it costs less than 100k to field the entire expanded roster.

The TV package is shared revenue with each team splitting the whole take equally. The only way for a NFL franchise to increase revenues is at the gate plus parking, concessions etc.

By including tickets for the preseason as a manditory component of season ticket packages, assuring near sellouts for most teams, the owners recieve gate revenue of a regular season contest.

Combining the low salary outlay with the high ticket revenue means that the preseason contests are by far the most profitable games of the year. For that reason, they are unlikely to go away.

I don't see Hearst being able to do much but Griffin might be pretty good for them. He had some good games for them last season when Portis was out last season.

I just mentioned Hearst to show how deep they are at the position. He won't see much PT. And yes, Griffin better be good, he's my #2 back. :D
