Anybody watch the game last night? It was the first time I've seen them play this year so it was good to see the Black & Gold again. Pre-season is so hard to tell where things stand but I think with the addition of Deuce and a motivated Plaxico, it should be a good year. More importantly, how about my boy Big Ben? He looked pretty impressive I thought. In a couple years, everybody will be raving about him.
Here's to the Steelers losing their first regular season game...:gulp: :D

I was watching the game in between commercials during the Yankee game. I wish I could share your optimism, but while the addition of Deuce was a good move, I'm still concerned about both sides of the line. The secondary doesn't look much different than it was last year. To me that's not a good thing.
About Plaxico, to me this is a put up or shut up year for him. This is his 5th year. He has the ability to be a top 10 receiver, but I don't think he seems to be focused during the game. He should be using his height more to make catches. I think if he doesn't start showing steady improvement this year, the Steelers should consider trading him and drafting another receiver or finding a top notch receiver in the free agent market in the offseason.
About Big Ben, the Steelers haven't really had good steady quarterback since O'Donnell (except for Super Bowl XXX), so I hope you're right about people raving about him.
I would be very happy if this team finished 9-7 or 10-6, but I'm afraid they could finish 6-10 or 7-9.

Sorry.....was a linebacker and idolized a "local" guy named Jack Lambert growing up. Besides, from my house it's 55 miles to Cleveland and 80 miles to the 'Burg so I'm pretty much in the middle. Although. no matter how close you live, this is still predominantly Browns country. The Steelers gained a bunch of fans when Modell screwed them, but I think most of them have gone back to rooting for the Browns.

I think once he get's acclimated, he'll be one of the better one's out there. Did you guys see him scramble and the charging linebacker bounced off him? Ben hardly even flinched and the LB fell on his keister. He'll be a stud but needs more time to learn the game (reading D's, game speed, etc.)

The NFL loves to reward their 4-12 season with a bad schedule...just par for the course...

In today's NFL scheduling by record has lesser significance. The Raiders were unfortunate to draw the tough NFC South and AFC South teams. They'll need to do well in their division more than ever in 2004.

Yeah, you have 6 division games, and the 2 divisions you play are scheduled years and years in advance now, leaving about 2 games in which the prior year's record comes into play. The other teams in your division all have to play basically the exact same teams aside from a few games.

I should have played Staley instead of Gordon. George was right, I played him too soon. I just didn't think Duce would fare well against Oakland. Oh well.

You'd really be kicking yourself if Bettis didn't rob Duce blind.

HERE is to Ben, though! :gulp: He lost last year's Heisman to that choking paraplegic at Oklahomo, but Ben was, IMFO the most polished QB in the Draft. The Steelers might have something there in another couple years. :) :gulp:

It definitely helps me in my home league. The odds of a rookie QB making an impact are long but hopefully he'll be OK. I'm going to need him with these damn bye weeks coming up.

I'll bet there are at least a half dozen GMs that are kicking themselves for passing on Big Ben. He looks like the real deal. I won't mention the names of personnel men, like Dennis Green and Butch Davis, who suffered a bout of paralysis through over analysis last April.

Green was in love with Fritz...those other teams I don't know...he'll be better than Rivers

Good for you, Nat.
Man, that was a heckuva game. Once again, Ben really impressed me. As soon as I'm done with this post, I'm going to send my umpteenth email to my buddy, the Sooner fan concerning the TRAVESTY of jason white winning the Heisman last year.
Big Ben is the REAL deal. He has more poise than a helluva lot of veteran NFL QBs. All of that talent and all of that heart!!! ................, in my main fantasy Keeper League, I may have to put McLimbaugh on the block in the Off-Season.

Funny but as I'm watching the game, I was thinking about you and what was going through your mind. It was such a fluke thing though (the fumble) but I'll take it. You've just gotta love #7 though. Despite all the hype for Manning and Rivers, I'm thinking Ben is looking pretty good comparatively right now!

That was great road win over Dallas. Big Ben is the real deal. Browns fans must be in agony that Butch Davis passed him up and the Ohio home boy is getting it done for the hated Steelers.
IMO, Davis will be the head coach of the Longhorns next year.

I think anybody that passed him up is shaking their heads. Obviously it's early Manning and Rivers haven't had much of a chance yet but I'm still convinced Ben's the best of the 3. And to be honest, I'm thinking he's still getting warmed up. He hasn't run much, and obviously the NFL is harder to run on than college. But he's pretty elusive when he gets out of the pocket.

Jerome Bettis was talking smack, saying that he was rooting for the Pats to beat the Jets so that the streak will end in Pittsburgh. When will these players ever learn. You don't talk smack against the Pats. That just gives them billboard material.
I see two reasons for the Pats streak to continue...
1.) Yes, Big Ben is the real deal but he's still a rookie who's never encountered a Bill Belichick defense.
2.) The Steelers "D" is diminished by injuries to key players: NT Casey Hampton and DB Chad Scott.
If the Pats bring their "A" game to Steel City, the streak will continue. JMHO

IMO The key matchup this week, will be the the big Steelers WRs vs. the Pats DBs. RCB Asante Samuel probably has won the starting job over ailing Tyrone Poole who was torched by Seattle's Koren Robinson two weeks ago. Samuel will be tested.
Here's a good read for this weeks Pats/Steelers matchup...

Your team is looking good right now. The biggest difference from those 1990s Steelers teams, the QB is not Kordell!!!!
Philly will be a good test for them next week.
Congrats!!! :gulp:

The Steelers are the best team in the NFL right now. However, they will be tested when they go against a team that has good rushing attack. In their only loss at Baltimore (30-13), the Ravens had 172 net yards. Here's Pittsburgh's remaining schedule...
11/14 - @Cleveland
11/21 - @Cincinnati
11/28 - WASHINGTON
12/5 - @Jacksonville
12/12 - N.Y. JETS
12/18 - @N.Y. Giants (Sat.)
12/26 - BALTIMORE
1/2 - @Buffalo

It will be interesting to see what happens this time around now that Ben's getting his feet wet. I'm not saying that they'll run the table.....in fact, I'm very sure they'll lose more games this year. But it's good to see the team clicking. They're able to execute and enjoy it.
