Now I'm comfused. As the unofficial farm system for the NFL, does College football belong here,in another forum, or nowhere on Nyyfans.com?

Once you go north of Pennsylvania there doesn't seem to be a large interest in college football, especially in New England. Since most of the members here are from New York/New England I wouldn't expect there to be much interest in college football. However, I'm a Penn State fan and counting down the days until the opener against Akron on 9/4.

I don't know? BC and Syracuse have their fans, and there have got to be some Domers here. As for me, my alma mater, University of Colorado Boulder, is comming off the worst off season in NCAA history. Rape allegations, strippers, head coaches and university presidents with inexplicably dumb public comments, players transferring.

Still, I look forward to the season. My fondest hope that someone will knock off USC, Is VA Tech any good this year?

I guess we'll leave this here until someone tells us to move.

Nice more NCAA fans!

That must be hard for you Social Pinstriper. Colorado has had a rough off-season.

I, myself, am a Michigan State fan. But I am from upstate New York, don't ask me how that happened.

VTech isn't in the top 25. Here are the fresh rankings released today....errr yesterday. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1849109

One of the many difficult parts has been that we did not get any of the recruits that were involved. One, a linebacker, is an all american at Oaklohoma. All around, a HUGE black eye for the school. It will be 10 years before we are competitive again.

Fortunatly, I'm interested in all of it. Thanks for the link.

I'm actually looking forward to Arizona football for the first time since I've been here. Stoops should be able to do what Mackovic never could with this program! The next few seasons should be fun!

Also, GO IRISH!

Hey, I've been a USC fan since I was young so it's nice to see the program regain the prominence it once had. And here's hoping #1 is allowed back on the team so we can TOTALLY run up the score instead kind-of kicking ass! ;)

At Pac Ten media day,Washington Coach Keith Gilbertson, picked USC to finish third ....................................................................in the NFC West.

Seriously though, their third team could put up big numbers against this year's schedule. Through no fault of their own (who would predict that Va.Tech, Notre Dame, and the entire rest of the Pac Ten would all be as bad as they are shaping up to be this year), strength of schedule could once again be a BCS issue for SC.

In all honesty, I have no problem with the team, and I think that Pete Carroll is everything that you could want a college coach to be. I usually go to at least one game every season, and have a great time.

It's just that about 75% of the people that I do business with are either alumni or hardcore fans, and it gets old. Looks like I'll need to get used to it, because I think that they're going to have a good long run at the top.

I happen to agree with you about Paterno, and I HATE the regional coverage when I'm at school that gives me Penn State vs Other Sucky Team instead of Texas vs Oklahoma, etc. When I was at home, I got to see UT almost every week it seemed like.

I feel like the ACC has, for the time being, leapfrogged the Big 10, Pac 10 and the SEC as the second best football conference in the country, behind the Big 12. Miami and Va Tech added to FSU, Maryland, NCState, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and UVA. UNC has its years too. The Duke ineptitude at football really warms the cockles of my heart.

College Football is very unpredictable with more upsets than in the NFL.

I have some suggestions for College Football though...eliminate the multiple overtimes. I saw the Arkansas-Kentucky overtime game last year and it went to seven OTs. It was exciting, but the players were spent.

I wish the NFL and College Football adopt the Arena Football League OT system. Each team gets one possession to score. If the score is still tied, go to sudden death and the first team scores wins. That's a better overtime.

And also, I'm begging for the NCAA, add another title bowl game instead of the BCS mess. Not right now, save it for the future if the BCS is corrupted.

The ACC is certainly trending in that direction, but what makes the SEC so special is that the fans care so much about football. ACC fans have a ways to go in that department.

Last years triple overtime Cal-USC game was the best game I saw all year. I would suggest that the NFL needs to adopt the NCAA overtime rules because NFL tie games are most often decided by the coin flip.

On paper maybe. Sure, they've got a lot of potential but they haven't played any games yet. I think it's only fair to wait till AFTER the season to see where the ACC stands in respect to the others. Who knows, the rest of the PAC 10 may wake up finally.

O-H... I-O!

This is my first year of grad school at The Ohio State University, and I've got tickets to all the home games in the "Big 2 and the Little 9" Conference, including the Buckeyes' 3 biggest rivals: Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan. Looks like I may be the only fan of the last undisputed national champions on this board, but I've noticed a few Michgan fans here (The Game will give us something to talk about during the Yanks' offseason).

I also follow Notre Dame a bit, because QB Brady Quinn (who started last year as a true freshman) went to my high school.

My opinion is that it's just a ploy to aid in recruiting. If the recruits know that JoePa will be around for their full career at Penn State they'd feel much more confident with their commitment than if Joe kept getting one year extensions. Joe has said he wants "one more great Penn State team". If everything goes right this season (7-8 wins), that team could come next season. After that great season I expect Joe to call it quits. I'd say there's about a 15% chance he'll fulfill the contract.

I don't hate MSU. It's a ridiculous forced rivalry we have with them. It's that other team from Michigan I have a problem with.:barf:

USC wasn't sharp at all last night. The offensive line was struggling to hold back the Tech line. The USC receivers looked scared. Perhaps Mike Williams makes a bigger difference than originally thought. Reggie Bush looked good. I'm hoping PSU will use Rodney Kinlaw like USC uses Bush this season.

I agree. I watched the game, and USC didn't impress me at all, other than Bush. At one point beating VT like that would be impressive, but not so much now-especially when they were sans Marcus Vick. It was the first game of the season, though, so they could have been a bit rusty. I think they'll get better, because if they keep playing like that they might lose a game or two.

I actually thought that the Trojans looked pretty good considering that they opened 3000 miles away in front of 80k VT fans, They had no turnovers, and although VT amassed the yards in the 1st half, once USC put the scout on Roberts(?), the VT QB, they played well defensivly.

I also think that VT may be better than advertised. I see them as a lock for a bowl, and perhaps ranked by season's end.

Sadly, and through no fault of USC, they have very few real challenges remaining on their schedule. This will be another long season for those of us in LA who are not Trojan fans.:(

You guys are right, USC didn't look very good. But they also had to fill 3 spots (WR, RB, DL) that they didn't plan to fill this year. Also, if you look at the depth chart, they're pretty damn young compared to other top 10 teams so they'll be around for a while. I'm not sure who all got in but the commentators mentioned that USC would have 8 freshman playing......8!!! That's what teams do when they're tossing in the towel, not the returning National Champs. So look out naysayers, the Men of Troy are back!

As if they wern't annoying enough as the Trojans, they now officially want to be referred to as "The Men Of Troy". They have instructed announcers doing their games to use only that moniker. You could almost feel the guys on Friday bristle every time that they said it.

The only good thing about having to watch the Pac Ten every week as our regional ABC game is that Keith Jackson still does the games. Last year he refused to use MOT exclusively, and I smiled every time he said Trojans.
