Yeah I know I´m not the least worried about the Sox.
We have a friggin 7,5 game lead when that lead is down to 3 games come back to me;)

This should be in Around the Majors. And BTW... maybe the Sox should pray the Yanks don't get hot. Considering they are already 7.5 games behind.

For now we are pretty safe and don't need to worry. Hopefully Brown can go 6 or 7 innings of 5-6 hits given up and 2 or 3 runs give up. Hopefully el duque is alrite and I hope that lieber can build of his last start. I think the rotation this weekend is
Brown
Vasquez
El duque
lieber
I think on monday we have a day off so hopefully we can skip contreras. Granted that order might change if we get a starting pitching via trading :-p
I want to be optimistic, but also have to be realistic. Will Brown be there at the end? Moose was not all that good before he left. Lieber can easily go either way. The Cuban's family is not helping him as planned. RJ is no where on the horizan. Riveria I love;but he has shown he in not infallible. The cheering for Protor has already stopped. And other than Gorden whats going on with this middle relief. Quantrall<sp> reminds me of Jeff Nelson...Overrated. I am not waiting until we are only ahead by 3 games. I am starting to pray now.

No, you are starting to panic now. There is a major difference.
Would you rather be 7.5 games behind? Ok then.

With 7 of our next 13 games against Tampa Bay, I think Yogi has a very valid point.

I think the Redsox will make the playoffs, unless Pedro or Schilling get seriously injured.
If the Yankees and Redsox meet in the playoffs, the Yanks would probably start : El Duque, Brown, Vazquez (if we don't get Randy. And Mussina is risky to be a starter in that series).
The Redsox would probably start Wakefield, Pedro and Schilling.
I'd bet on the Yankees to win those matchups. We proved we can hit Schilling last week. Pedro! Well, the last few seasons the Yanks have been the most succesful team against him. Wakefield is the one who scares me. The Yanks should put in slow bats against him.

The Boston Red Sox have all the pressure. They have to outlast the AL West winner, Anaheim Angels, and the Chicago White Sox for the AL Wild Card.
If the Red Sox don't win a World Championship when the Yankees are this vunerable, I don't know if the Red Sox will have another shot.
The Yankees opportunity window to win World Series is open, while the Red Sox window is closing fast especially with Pedro, Nomar, Jason Varitek, those guys are free agents at the end of the season.
That's my opinion.

I agree with that, except for the first part. The Angels are slowly falling out of contention, they needed RJ as much as anyone, and they won't get him. Chicago could have been tough, but its tough to see them stay in the race with their two top hitters (thomas and ordonez) out until late september. Minnesota will take the central again, and Texas, Oakland and Boston will fight it out for the last 2 spots. I'm really hoping that Texas slows down, because Oakland always seems to do very well in the second half, and I'd rather not have to worry about them for the wildcard.
If they sox cant win with Jesus in Centerfield, i dont think they will ever win.
Sox have alot of ground, but the AL WildCard is a race i'm glad the yankees arent apart of.

I am praying with Yogi. It used to be the starters put us in a hole and a home run and Riveria bailed us out in the 9th. Anyone notice our team batting average...for all we have invested in it...is not even at the median among our peers. In the 70"s, it was the Yanks closing 10 games and Bucky saving the day in an extra game. Now is the time to make sure no one closes the gap on us. And fooy on the Yanks never gave up a 6 game lead. Rivera never blew two saves in a row either....until it did.

Maybe not, but your team OBP is 3rd in the AL, and your OPS is 2nd.

I'm pretty sure that Rivera blew 2 saves in a row last August.

But we still are way up in runs scored which is exactly why team batting average doesn't matter.
FYI, I don't think the red sox will make the playoffs.

Cant count them out, look what happened last year in the Oakland series. If they fire their idiotic Manager, trade for a 1st baseman, and Right Fielder and get rid of Nomar for a starter.. They'll make the playoffs.
but that's a lot of trading to do =/

This tread started by saying IF the Sox get hot. Throughout it I keep hearing the Sox will not get hot. Then thats good news. Still IF they do, start praying.

I'm not counting them out but if I was to bet on it, I'd bet they don't make it. I'm starting to believe in the Rangers and the A's are going to make the playoffs. Colon has been pitching much better for the Angels also so they will make a run at it. The White Sox are an improved team also and the Twins find ways to win. I also think the Red Sox just aren't that great of a team.
Can we have slightly more descriptive thread titles?

Wanna make a $10 Paypal bet on that or did you learn your lesson after your silly Contreras bet?

You can reply to a thread after reading the first post, so I'm not sure what your point is.
This is one season where I haven't had to worry about these guys.

Yeah, we have 13 more games with the Blue Jays, and the next 7 games with Tampa Bay, we are going to fall out of first place and into the wildcard.

I see you were lurking on the GTF. Who did I bet anyways because I still need him to PM me his info.
Anyways, you're on.

The White Sox are good, but they are already falling(3.5 out of the WC)....they can't deal with both Frank Thomas and Magglio Ordonez being out until late September. It's the equivalent of Boston losing manny and ortiz for 2 months, I just don't think they have the offense anymore. Colon has been pitching better, but the Angels are slipping, too(3 out of the WC). IMO, they needed RJ more than anyone, including the Yankees. With the White Sox out, the twins will cruise to a division title, I'm thinking they win by 5+ games. I'm just waiting for Oakland to go on their annual second half run (they've already started, I think they were 4 games back of Texas last week, now they are a half game up for the division lead), so that leaves Texas and Boston fighting it out for the WC.

All those points are very true. Continuing on...we have all been waiting for Texas to fall out of it. Is that happening now? They gave up a 4 game lead or so in a short period of time...there is every possibility that the Red Sox could be left standing alone with the Wild Card lead in a few weeks.
I think we lost the spirit of this thread. I never said the Sox would get hot. I said playing the way we are, if they did get hot, there is still time to overtake us.

I would like to win the division but if we don't, i'm fine with the wildcard. I'm confident we can beat the Yankees in a 7 game series... the key is getting into the playoffs. :P
Game 1: Pedro vs. Vasquez(?)
Game 2: Schilling vs. Brown (?)
Game 3: Wake vs. Mussina(?)
Game 4: Arroyo/Lowe vs. El Duque/Leiber
Game 5: Pedro vs. Vasquez
Game 6: Schilling vs. Brown
Game 7: Pedro/Wake/Lowe/Arroyo vs. Vasquez/Mussina/El Duque/Leiber
I like our chances. I also like our bullpen with Williamson, Mendoza(ok maybe not), Adams, Embree, Timlin, and Foulke...

First off.. if you want to get it right:
Game 1: Schilling vs. Brown
Game 2: Pedro vs. Mussina
Game 3: Wake vs. Vasquez
Game 4: Arroyo/Lowe vs. El Duque
Game 5: Schilling vs. Brown
Game 6: Pedro vs. Mussina
Game 7: Lowe/Arroyo vs. Vasquez//El Duque
I like the Yanks chances better.
Plus, we can throw out Quantrill, Gordon, and Mo in a close game. You guys can't. ;)
Hopefully we get Karsay back as well, and some of our minor leaguers actually start playing well, we'll be very well off.

Talking about game-by-game match-ups in the ALCS is a little silly at this point. The rotation is dependent on the outcome of the ALDS.

Yeah, and then you might want to win the ALDS first. As Chitown pointed out if the Sox make the playoffs and if they win the ALDS, then you set your rotation. And who knows what acquistions will be made by then, which pitchers will be hot and which will be cold, who will be hurting, tired, or just plain injured, etc.
Let the Sox work on making the playoffs before you start breaking down how they're going to beat the Yanks.

I guess you're right, i shouldn't look past the ALDS but i just don't see Chicago or Minnesota beating the Yankees and i don't see Oakland or Texas beating us in the playoffs. I think i said the key was getting into the playoffs, once we're in it i think we can can do well in it because our pitching staff is pretty much built to win in the playoffs.
Game 1: Schilling vs. Brown
I know its way too early to be talking about it, but unless Pedro is hurt, or the rotation is out of order (i.e. if the Sox need every single game up until the last one, and can't rest their rotation), there is no way Schilling starts game 1. Whether curt is better than Pedro or not, the pecking order here is pretty clear, Pedro is #1, Curt is #2.
