1. Which player appeared in the most Major League games without getting a basehit?
Hint: He's still active, and he's a former Yankee
2. Which player (not the same guy as in Q#1) appeared in the most Major League games without getting a plate appearance?

OK - More hints -
#1. - This player was once traded to the Yankees for a still-active player who is a lock to get into Cooperstown soon after he's eligible.
#2. - This player spent his entire career with the team most Yankees fans love to hate.

YES. They're both relief pitchers (thus getting a lot of appearances), that played their entire careers in the AL, arriving after the start of the DH (1973).
#1 has two ABs, but no hits. He got the ABs in interleague games. He's a lousy pitcher who's managed to hang on for a number of years. He has played briefly in the NL. He's the one who played for the Yanks and was traded once for Henderson. He's still active.
#2 is the one who played his entire career for the Red Sox. He's no longer active. He retired before the start of interleague play.

I'm guessing #1 is Greg Cadaret. #2 is killing me.

OK - This one's harder than I expected.
THE ANSWERS ARE:
#1 - Eric Plunk - 714 games. He has appeared at the plate three times, with a walk (& scored) and two strikeouts. The biggest surprise to me is that Plunk is 47th on the career list of games pitched.
Dan Plesac has ONE career hit in 822 games.
#2 - Bob "Steamer" Stanley never even appeared at the plate in 637 games pitched.
A (Hopefully easier) Follow-Up Question:
What NON-Pitcher appeared in the most games without getting a hit?
hints:
- He played in 105 games over two seasons.
- He played for a world championship team, and played in three World Series games.
- He played in the 1970s.
- He had a Topps baseball card.

Herb Washington is correct.
He never batted, and he never played in the field.
Only Charlie O. Finley or Bill Veeck could come up with a nutty idea like a designated pinch runner.
Good job kgblues - Johnny, tell him what he's won!!
