Born, Made or Otherwise

I personally was born a fan. My mother and father were both Yankee fans, even before they met each other...so were my grandparents...so that makes me a 3rd generation fan. What's your history? My father saw Gehrig and Ruth play...and my mother's favorite player was "Old Reliable".
Through the years, I have had many favorites...Guidry, Nettles, Gossage, Winfield, Righetti, Hunter...and my favorite now, Tino. Although I have to say...I love 'em all!!! http://www.yankeesboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh man, I wish I had that kind of history, but unfortunatly, I don't. I was raised a Phillies fan, but changed my mind after living in the NY metro area in 1986. http://www.yankeesboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

I was actually kind of out of the whole baseball scene until about 1991, when my best friend (who was a long time Yankee Fan) took me to see a game at Yankee Stadium. His Father was a season ticket holder, so needless to say, we had pretty good seats. I was still a Phillies fan at heart, until Donny Baseball signed a ball for me during BP, and personally welcomed me to Yankee Stadium. From that moment on and for the rest of my life, I was (and am) a Yankee Fan.

I was born a Yankee fan. My father and my Grandmother (mother's mother) were huge Yankee fans. My earliest Yankee memories go back to Mantle and Maris, although my sister was a much bigger fan than I was at the time. That situation is totally reversed now.

I am an otherwise! I starting going to Yankee games when I was 15 years old! My then boyfriend was a huge Yankee fan, so I went with him! From that moment on, I loved the Yankees! When I was young I was a very precocious reader( I read at a much higher level than my age).Anyway,when I was 8 or 9 years old I came across the book Dynasty by peter Gollenbock(sp?)The book cover was the Yankee pinstripes and the NY logo.I took it home and read about the glorious history of the Yanks.
Ruth,Gehrig,Joe D,Mick etc...

I have been a Yankee fan ever since.I have never cheered for another MLB team.In 1977-78 I had a great deal of fun in school being the only Yankee fan while they were winning the WS.Not to mention the playoff in '78!

I have a very dark secret to share.
My parents HATE baseball. They.. they say its... its j..just a...a...a STUPID GAME.
I was born a baseball hater. I didn't know who Babe Ruth was until I was 9. I hope nobody hates me now. I really had to get that off my chest. Honestly though, I very much caught up. I own a collection of 122 baseball books, including all the ones made in the past year! Baseball rocks!!! Go Jim!!!

No sweat man! As I said, I hated baseball from '86 until around '91. The funny thing is though, that pretty much my whole family and all of my friends are not baseball fans. I have actually converted all of them! Baseball is a universal sport.

Have you ever seen "Pride Of The Yankees"? Lou Gherig's mother almost disowned him for wanting to be a "baseballer" and not an "Engineer" like Uncle 'Fritz' (?).

Once you've discovered baseball, it's hard to not appreciate it.

Born and raised a Yankee fan. My father was a Yankee fan, but I don't know where he got his love of the Yankees from since his father died before I was born. I grew up loving Dent, Nettles, Guidry, Tommy John, Pags, Mattingly, Winfield, and now the greats of Jeter, Knoblauch, and Tino.

When I was 7, I had a shirt of Bucky Dent that I used to wear all the time! Even have pictures of it!

I plan to raise my children Yankee fans too!
