I was just browsing www.baseballreference.com and came across his numbers. He needs 134 hits to reach 3,000 and is the classic case of a player hanging on for the sole reason of reaching a milestone and subsequently, a bid for the HOF.

Last year, he mustered only 11 hits seriously hurting his chances yet I haven't heard of his retiring and can only assume that at 42 (he'll be 43 in March) he's still giving it a go.

Amazing.

Wow...43 is really old. Rickey Henderson is 43 too, right?

Let Baltimore take him back. Give Angelos a call.

I'm pretty sure Baines is done. Even if he did get to 3,000 hits, I doubt it would get him in the Hall, just like 500 homers isn't likely to get Canseco in. He has very impressive counting stats, but he spent most of his career at DH and was never a really dominant player.

I'm pretty sure Baines is done. That wouldn't deter the Little Peter. And Asselos is such a genius that he'd probably give Baines a 3 year, 15 million-dollar contract......
