On August 21, 1931 Babe Ruth hits his 600th HR, off George Blaeholder of the St. Louis Browns, as the Yankees win 11-7.

Lou Gehrig homers immediately after the Babe's historic blow.

In their 10 years as teammates, they will homer in the same inning 19 times and in the same game 72 times. WOW!

George Blaeholder's career Satistics:

Regular Season
St. Louis Browns 1927 - 1936
Innings - 1,914
W/L - 104 - 125
ERA 4.54

George Blaeholder tidbit:
Blaeholder was one of the exponents of the slider, perfecting the "nickle curve" while pitching for the hapless St. Louis Browns. Although he never had a winning season for the Browns, he had ten wins or more for seven consecutive years. His four shutouts led the AL in 1929.

Has anyone ever wondered how many more RBI's Gehrig would have had if he batted third and Ruth batted fourth??

70 years later, Nick Johnson has an RBI single in his 1st AB.

8/21 - - a good day for Yankee LH hitters.
