Slippery Elm guessed the last "Guess this Yankee" right off the bat. It was Mike Gazella. I hope this one is harder to guess.

Could not find a photo this time, but I have a baseball card of this guy and scanned that. For those familiar with the card I did edit out his name.

Hints: The card is a 1911 Turkey Red Cabinet. Which would be his 1910 season. First regular Yankee catcher.

Good Luck!

Jeff Sweeney was the regular catcher on the 1910 squad. No, I could never recognize him with a catchers mask on as in that photo.

The other catchers of 1910 were Walter Blair, Red Kleinow, and Lou Criger.

I think we get a hold of any of these catchers to give Posada some tips on the business of catching.

Ed Sweeney?

Yes Ed Sweeney was the regular cathcer on the 1910 squad but he was not considered the first regular catcher. The person on the card was considered the first regular catcher for the Yankees. I will give a you another hint. He played with New York from 1904-1910.

Good Luck!!

OK. I got another one. But his name is JEFF Sweeney. I've checked and double checked.

Your right Jeff and not Ed Sweeney, but that's still not the guy. Jeff Sweeney played 1908-15. And he didn't have a 1911 Turkey Red Card.

Still looking for the regualr catcher before Jeff Sweeney. Your not far off.

Slippery Elm already mentioned Red Kleinow.

He was the catcher from 1904-1911, Jeff Sweeney took over for Kleinow in 1911.

Monte Beville was the catcher in 1903

Red Kleinow it is. According to the Yankee Encyclopedia he is considered the first regular Yankee catcher. He was with the team from 1904-1910. He also played some games at 1B, 2B, 3B and OF. Played 522 games as a Yankee. I was surprised no one recoginzed the Turkey Red card. Anyway, good job!
