For a recent show I'd say "Rescue Me", and an old school theme would probably be the old "Transformers" cartoon. They had the "Ghostbusters" theme for the old cartoon right? If so put that on my list.

The end of the Civil War was near when quite accidentally,
A hero who sneezed abruptly seized retreat and reversed it to victory.

His medal of honor pleased and thrilled his proud little family group.
While pinning it on some blood was spilled and so it was planned he’d command F-Troop.

Where Indian fights are colorful sights & nobody takes a lickin’
Where pale face and redskin both turn chicken.

When killing and fighting get them down, they know their morale can’t droop.
As long as they all relax in town before they resume with a bang and a boom F-Troop.

And up through the ground came a bubblin' crude.

I agree w/Rhody that the NBA on NBC music is the best sports theme music any network has ever had

Although I will say that the music NBC used for MLB in the late 80s was good, and maybe the most underrated was CBS's theme for MLB when they had the games in the early 90s.

OK, if people are going to bring up lame 70s-80s shows, it's time to come out with some big guns. These were some afternoon cartoon shows from the 60s...and I'll warn you: be afraid. Be very afraid.

8th Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTiysOs-91w) - a lame show, to be sure, but it was on after school for a little while. The theme song's been using up valuable synapses ever since. I never could figure out why the height of the FBI building was relevant.

Felix the Cat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptMjwkEdNgY&feature=related) - I never liked the show, but the song is a classic. "You'll laugh so hard your sides will ache, your heart will go pit-a-pat."

I was humming different Beatles tunes, then switched from their version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" to Joe Cocker's version and realized that I liked that song when I was around 4 or 5. Waaaaay before I even knew about The Beatles, Joe Cocker, or anyone outside of MC Hammer. "The Wonder Years." Feel free to close this thread now.

Swamp Fox! Swamp Fox!

Hiding in the glen, he runs away to fight again.
I fire a gun the birds take wing. There startled cries a signal clear.
My men march forth to fight the king. And leave behind there loved ones dear.

Beware use of YouTube, this chorus can haunt you for decades....

Less known, I think, is that he was called 8th Man because his inventor had gone through 7 previous models, presumably failures.

I think they were on at the same time. Both claimed to be the original...Turns out we're both right. They were competing with each other - they debuted on the same night, but on different networks. But the were in successive time slots, so I did see them back-to-back. Probably not more than a couple of times, though.

Captain Nice had a slightly more eminent cast - William Daniels in the lead, Alice Ghostley as his mother. Mr. Terrific did have a good supporting cast, though, with Dick Gautier (Hymie the Robot) and John McGiver (who guest starred on, I believe, every show that aired in the 60's and early 70's. Every single one. You couldn't have a show without him).

Both shows were off the air within four months.

Little known fact: "Unfortunately, because [Mr. Terrific] gets his powers by taking drugs, this show has never been offered by the studio for syndication." Why this is unfortunate, or who would have wanted it syndicated in the first place, is unclear.

My neighbor liked the older brother...Grant Goodeve. He was rather hott. But I liked Willie Aames myself. I think he is on some kind of "Teen Idol" show on VH1 now? I have not seen it.

Was Elizabeth the teen sister with the long straight hair parted in the middle?

Willie Aames was on Celebrity Fit Club a couple of times...the first time he was a complete ass and then admitted that and was pretty good the next time. :)

Yes, Elizabeth had the long straight brown hair -- my hair looked like hers at the time, maybe a little shorter but not much.

The Odd Couple
The Honeymooners

Same here. Definitely one of my favorite shows EVER! "Who can turn the world on with her smile?" Love that song. :)

My parents watched it when it was an original series; I watched it in re-runs with them when it was on Nick-at-Nite. We'd watch all the old shows: I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Happy Days, Leave It To Beaver, My Three Sons, Doby Gillis, Munsters, Andy Griffith, Green Acres, I Dream of Jeannie, Bob Newhart Show, Odd Couple, Ozzie & Harriet, Welcome Back, Kotter, M*A*S*H, Laverne & Shirley...

Good times! :D I know '50s - '70s TV better than I know shows from when I was a kid.

Edit: This site lists lots of classics, as well as several good '80s and even '90s shows that I used to watch. (I refuse to refer to anything from the '80s as classic yet.)
