some of his best calls
Ladies and gentlemen, the Brooklyn Dodgers are the champions of the world.
"It's a long drive to deep left, Buckner to the fence... It is gone!
“What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. And it is a great moment for all of us, and particularly Henry Aaron."
3rd and 3.....Montana...looking, looking, throwing in the end zone...Clark caught it!...Dwight Clark!
Two and two to Harvey Kuenn, one strike away. Sandy into his windup, here's the pitch: swung on and missed, a perfect game! On the scoreboard in right field it is 9:46 p.m. in the City of the Angels, Los Angeles, California, and a crowd of twenty-nine thousand one-hundred thirty nine just sitting in to see the only pitcher in baseball history to hurl four no-hit, no-run games. He has done it four straight years, and now he caps it: on his fourth no-hitter he made it a perfect game. And Sandy Koufax, whose name will always remind you of strikeouts, did it with a flourish: he struck out the last six consecutive batters—so when he wrote his name in capital letters in the record books, that K stands out even more than the O-U-F-A-X.
High fly ball into right field, she i-i-i-is... gone!
and
Little roller up along first . . . behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight and the Mets win it!
If one picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words, but more than that, you have seen an absolutely bizarre finish to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. The Mets are not only alive, they are well, and they will play the Red Sox in Game 7 tomorrow!

Completely agree with you. I could care less about the Dodgers but can can easily sit through 9 innings if Scully is calling the game.

Vin Scully narrates a lot of my childhood baseball memories, including unforgettable moments that took place in Fall Classics. Baseball fans, especially those who root for the Dodgers, will be lucky to have him in the broadcast booth for another season.

Dodger second baseman Jeff Kent made it clear in this interview (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-simers17-2008aug17,0,2291306.column)with Los Angeles Times columnist T.J. Simers that anyone who thinks Manny Ramirez has helped him has no idea what he is talking about.
This despite Kent hitting (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=2668) .500 since Ramirez's arrival and raising his batting average by 20 points.
The Dodgers' Hall of Fame broadcaster, incurred Kent's rath for mentioning it on his broadcast.
"Vin Scully (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/team/broadcasters.jsp?c_id=la)talks too much," Kent said about a guy who has made a living for six decades with perhaps the most iconic voice in baseball history.

It must've been nice for Kent when he was with the Giants to have a biggest jerk on the team in Barry Bonds so virtually nobody realized what a jerk Kent is until he left the Giants.

I contend Barry Bonds might have been merely the second least likable player on those Giants teams. The only reason he got the attention was because his enormous talent thrusted him into the spotlight. Yeah, that talent probably wasn't all natural, but he would have been a Hall of Famer with or without "help". As for Kent, the adage of "what you say about other is what you say about yourself" likely holds true here. I've never heard a bad word said about Vin Scully. Kent, on the other hand...

I'm not shocked, but I'm a little disappointed to learn that editors at USAToday don't know how to spell "wrath".

Oh no!!! Not another season of non-stop gab from a man who has been reading the backs of baseball cards for 50 years and being acclaimed as the greatest baseball announcer of all times. I find him painful, exhausting, boring, monotonous, dull, etal. I guess I'll be watching any LAD games with the sound off for the 50th+ year.
Last year when Comcast had the EI preview going on, I watched the Dodgers game to see how Torre handled the team and so on. At first, I didn't really like Scully. It was very weird to watch a game and only hear one voice, and not say three different people. However, as I watched it more, I really liked it. Scully was great; good info, great voice, and great play-by-play.

I listen to Dodger games on XM just for Scully. Listening to him call Kershaw's first start was a freakin treat.

Great news!
I'm very proud to say he's an alumnus of the great Fordham University! Cancels out the fact that Michael Kay went here too (although I don't hate him like some do). ;)
He's one of the best, no doubt. Baseball announcing will be far worse off when he steps away from the mic.

He's the best, without a doubt
The day he retires will be a sad sad day for sports broadcasting, especially for us LA fans

Agreed. Listening to him I get the feeling he's reading a book to a 6 year old, and like you said, he will not shut up.He actually makes my eardrums hurt.Thank God for the mute button.

I will be very sad when Vin decides to retire permanantly (he works an abbreviated schedule these days). I grew up listening to Vin Scully and Ross Porter calling dodger games. Porter was let go several years ago. Vin is just great. I think he may be the last guy in all of baseball who calls a game by himself. Instead of talking to the other broadcasters in the booth, he talks to the fans listening to the broadcast. And, of course, he has stories galore. Most interesting and funny, some maybe not so much. It was sad in LA when Chick Hearn could no longer work, and it will be the same when Vin does the same. On the few occasions when he is announced, he EASILY gets a bigger ovation than anyone else involved with the dodgers, player or management. I'm glad we'll have him for at least one more year.

Vintage Scully and Hall to kick off MLB Network.
It will be the first time the contest has been televised since the October day 52 years ago.
Yankees' announcer Mel Allen and Brooklyn Dodgers' announcer Vin Scully do the play-by-play. Larsen is the only pitcher ever to throw a perfect game during the World Series.

I thought footage of the first 2 or 3 innings of the game had gone missing. It's cool that they found it starting in the 2nd.
