Has anyone noticed that @ the stadium after the Yankees strike out an opposing batter, the stadium PA plays the PC Richards whistle. When did this sponsored K sound start?

I don't remember it from the last game I went to (the Lester shutout), so it must be more recent.

I kinda like it.

If you are not from the NY metro area. PC Richards is a electronics store and their trademark is this annoying whistle

Ah, hence the "sponsored K" comment.

Got it, thanks.

Be thankful you don't know it -- it's impossible to get it out of your head. That's why Handel died, you know...he went crazy because he couldn't get a musical score out of his head.

I really wish they'd stop playing it. It sounds stupid and annoying, and it certainly doesn't fit after a big strikeout, such as one to get out of a jam or one against one of the best hitters in the league. I hate it.

Apparently, it started after the All Star break.

SPONSORING STRIKEOUTS The Yankees are not selling the naming rights to their new stadium, but they have found a way to sell plays on the field. Since the All-Star break, every time a Yankees pitcher records a strikeout, the P.C. Richard whistle plays over the loudspeakers as part of a sponsorship deal.

Just when you think the bar couldn't POSSIBLY get any lower...

Whats next? Instead of "Dum dum DUM dum" after every run you hear WCBS's theme or something?

That would make sense to me, as OTD was the first game i went to since the all star game

For those outside the NY metro area.....view the commericals, its the whistle at the end of the commercial

I don't like it -- politically, I'm to the left (just ask my friends in the Political Soapbox forum), but as far as baseball goes, I'm uber conservative. :)

I don't like intro music before each at bat either, it seems really jarring and out of place.

And don't get me started on Cotton Eyed Joe....

I dont remember this before this year or even before like a month ago but its pretty annoying and is another thing along with Cotton Eye Joe and the YMCA that dont have to go over to the new stadium next year.

Just thank God this wasn't around 30 years ago the night Gator struck out 18! :)

to piggy back on that thought.....imagine 55K fans in the stadium whistling this after every K instead of the rhythmic clapping.

I hate that whistle too! I was wondering how long it's been going on. I guess we should be glad the Yankees are on the road for a while...

Ouch.

This is pretty clearly an effort by Yankee management to force their pitchers to pitch to contact. No Yankee pitcher will ever willingly strike out a batter again.

So tickets are more expensive and advertising is increasing? WTF? I know the payroll needs it but jeez!

One day this spending on baseball bubble should burst and things should come back down to earth.

And yes, the PC Richards whistle is heinous... How much could the Yankees be getting on that deal? Not nearly enough I'd imagine.

That is hideuous ! I guess the answer is to either drown it out with cheers, for the strikeout or with boos, for the whistle!!

I heard the whistle last Monday night against the Orioles, but they did not play it Friday night against the Angels.

It's a good image for P.C. Richards to have, I'll associate their appliances with striking out and buy my appliances elsewhere.

Sponsored strikeouts? What's next?
Is there anything that's NOT for sale anymore?

Why stop there?
They should play the Law and Order:Svu
"dunkdunk" whenever a base is stolen.

and maybe a perdue chicken squawking whenever a ball is hit "foul"

The possibilities are endless when everything is for sale!

I'm waiting for them to start blaring the Windows error sound every time a fielder makes an error.

I'm surprised. The Mets have done the PC Richard & Son whistle in the past, most recently with the Brooklyn Cyclones. How can we stoop down to that? Ughh.
