That never-ending Yankees-Red Sox intrigue has found its way to Scott Eyre. Both clubs are in on the Cubs left-hander, who is expected to be moved for a very modest return. But both teams also have him as a back-burner option as they search for more impactful bullpen help.

So, Stark thinks the Yankees are still looking for LH relief help?

Actually, it makes sense.

Eyre is a straight LOOGY- a one batter guy.

Marte is actually good enough to pitch an inning or more at a time- in other words, the Yanks may be thinking that using Marte as a LOOGY is a waste- they may want a lefty for straight match-ups, and Marte as a possible 8th inning set-up guy.

I hate LOOGYs, let the RSox have him.

IMO, LOOGYs don't make much sense over the course of a long season because they make the rest of the pen eat more innings. In the playoffs, where every at bat can change things, a LOOGY is more valuable.

As long as the Yanks only needed a LOOGY on is throw day.

Or... they figure either they get Eyre cheaply, or drive up the cost for the RS...

Like the RS need another lefty in the pen...don't they already have Lopez and Okie dokie?

Why do people assume any LH releiver can be a LOOGY? LOOGY are only worth carrying if they are ELITE against LHP (and even then it's questionable). Eyre's splits the last two years and in general are not highly favorable for LHB's.

why is it always assumed that if we're interested in someone or the Red Sox are interested in someone, it's always to drive up the price for the other team?

The phrase "drive up the cost for...." is like fingers on a chalkboard to me.

Eyre is worthless. He has one good year in SF and turned it into a big payday from the Cubs.

seems like a waste of a roster spot for a LOOGY...who would they send down? Seems like they would be hurting their pen if they make this move.

Let's just drive up the price for the Red Sox. We don't need Eyre.

I agree but if we can get him for nothing I would definetly take him to help our bullpen and help replace Farns.

Put him in SWB until the September call ups.
