At one point I heard this HUGE cheer from the fans, and Suzyn & John speculated that some famous person got their hands on a foul ball, and then gave/tossed it to someone else.

It seemed as though they'd sent Rick Rauch over to YES to see who it was, but I never heard any more about it. Scrudy, perhaps? If it'd been McCartney the system would have played one of his songs.

And meanwhile, somebody explain the rule on intentionally pitching at a batter to John...the ump CAN toss someone immediately! He doesn't HAVE to warn anybody!

When this happened, YES kept the camera on the pitcher & hitter and they did not comment on what was going on. Michael Kay laughed, and the game went on. They treated it like they would with a streaker on the field.

No he doesn't have to warn anybody, but Cabrera is wild. I'm not sure there was intent in that spot, but I'd have to see it again.

As for the loud cheer, I didn't quite catch it, but I did see all the fans behind home plate stand up and turn around along with the loud cheers. This lasted for quite some time. No mention of it on YES, from what I heard.

Also a nice "birdy" from Giambi to Brian Roberts tonight...I'd like to hear how John would call that one. Incidentally, Kay did refer to it later on as a "gesture."

Was it early in the game? If so, a vendor caught a foul ball and walked around waving it to the applauding crowd for awhile before handing it to a kid.

No he's referring to a foul ball in like the 7th inning.

I'm sure ESPN will run with that, talking about how classless the Yankees are & what not.

With the Giambi thing... I can't help but think of the "giving him the business" penalty call a long time ago in football haha

http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?p=5330562#post5330562Thanks for clearing that up...you can't tell if they're an accident or not. CBS and YES brass likely told'em to clam up.

3 1/2 years and I'm still new? Cripes, I need to come here more...

I played HS baseball with Rick. I'll see if I can ask him.
