Heard on the local radio an hour ago. Padres not looking for too much, fringe prospects and/or Melky discussed... Yankees supposedly also interested in adding one Josh Bard to the deal.

Screw Maddux. He had his chance to pitch for the Yankees, but chose to be beaten instead.

:wtf:

Maddux would get killed in the AL East.

EDIT: Btw Maddux has been the definition of an average pitcher since '03.

No thanks.

I don't think SD would send Maddux to somewhere where he doesn't want to go, and I would highly doubt Maddux would want to come here.

edit: He does have a NTC.

10 Greg Maddux starts and a backup catcher are not worth trading much for, especially if it involves the starting center fielder. I know he's not ever going to be Mantle or Bernie but he's still young and I have faith he'll turn it around.

I thought he only wanted to play on the Left Coast. Now as for Bard, I'm all ears.

The discussion is that he might waive his NTC in order to play for a contender since he's not signed beyong this season.

Which of course means I'd rather have him than Washburn, who is.

Is it worth having him basically get lit up every 5 days for us though?

Well he's probably better than Ponson.

If it didn't cost much, it might be worth a shot.

Yeah. I wonder where these rumors start. by some guy that knew a guy that overheard the delivery guy talking about something with a secretary and overheard Maddux in the same sentence as a word that sounded like Yanks..

This would be the equivalent of bringing in Al Leiter in 2005.

Ive been saying get maddux for months. if kennedy or hughes come back he would be a great mentor, he could definitely help out kennedy. he's still better than rasner or ponson.

Byrd is a significantly better option for a 5th starter.

Just get Byrd, bring up Kennedy, and drop Ponson outright. Send Rasner to the pen and send Giese back to AAA- if you are not going to use him, why keep him.

Do none of you still have lasting resentment for Paul Byrd from the playoffs against Cleveland? I hate the guy and his stupid throw-back motion. UGH

He would not waive his NYC to go to Philly, I don't see him waiving it to go to NYY.
