The Yankees (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/42) and Mets (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/53) are among at least nine teams monitoring the progress of Freddy Garcia (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/3363) as he intensifies his workouts to come back from shoulder surgery. Garcia will begin throwing breaking balls off the mound this week in Miami, according to one of his agents, Ed Greenberg, and as long he avoids setbacks the plan is to schedule a showcase for teams to judge his abilities.

Apparently A-rod is pushing the FO hard to sign him.

He had surgery on both his rotator cuff and labrum, no? He doesn't sound like a very good bet to be the same pitcher he once was.

Not sure but I do know that I would have no interest in him at all. I doubt he'd help us this year, so basically you're signing him for next year.

If so, I would do it without hesitation. Very low cost but potentially a good return. If Garcia is done, just release him. The biggest problem Garcia might pose is blocking a youngster at AAA. I'm not sure that SWB is so over-whelmed with good, young arms that this is likely to be an issue this year or next.
