Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers announced Friday they have designated relief pitcher Derrick Turnbow for assignment.

I wouldn't mind seeing him given a shot. At minimal cost, it could turn out pretty well.

OMG, DEFINITELY. He was amazing for me on my fantasy team last year. Got SOOO many holds.

i always liked this guys arm, but the yankees have alot of arms in the pen, i don't think it's all that necessary

Sure, put him in the minors, see what he can do.

Definitely worth a shot.

Actually, nevermind, he's pretty terrible.

Didn't our pen walk enough guys last year?

Steroids issues?

No way-he wasn't in the Mitchell Report!

How's his velocity?

I think you're joking? He was the first guy suspended for using steroids, years before this became a media frenzy, back when he was with the Angels I think.

His stats remind me of a pre-2008 Brian Bruney.

His WHIP this year in 6 1/3 innings - 3.95...ouch.

#1 he has to clear waivers

#2 he would have to sign with the Yanks

#3 would have to accept minor league assignment

Great arm terrible head. Reminds me of Farns actually.

One Farnsworth is enough, don't you think?

There are better internal options.
So I would say no.

Turnbow's Line:

15.63 ERA, 6.1 IP, 12 H, 11 ER, 13 BB, 5 K

I think we should pass.

Yeah obviously his line isn't good, otherwise a contender wouldn't have cut him.

No one is calling for him to be a closer or the 8th inning guy. Just give him a shot in SWB and see what he can do. Maybe he straightens it out, if not, big deal.

Our bullpen hasn't been too great other than Joba and Mo. With Bruney done and Hawkins being good for at least a run or two allowed, it'd be worth it to sign Turnbow, stick him in the minors, and see what happens. At worst, he continues to suck and we release him; at best, he improves and can either help our club or be of some value come July 31.

Good God! You would definitely have to pass on this one. I saw his 2/3 of an inning the other night against the Cubs when, in the space of 20 odd minutes, 6 runs scored and the home team batted around. Why Ned Yost left him in so long is beyond me because if Turnbow had pitched for the next month he still wouldn't have got the third out. He was wretched.

Between here and Scranton we have more than enough relievers.

Why the hell not?

No way! 6 bad innings? No pitcher has ever had 6 bad innings! DONT TAKE HIM! Wait till the Brewers cut someone who's pitched beautifully. We can take him instead.

But seriously, I don't know how some people think sometimes. You're not signing him because he sucked this year, you'd sign him because he was good before. Relievers are very up and down. 6 innings means absolutely nothing.

seems like a headcase

But why would he refuse an assignment with Milwaukee's AAA affiliate only to be on the Yankees' AAA affiliate?

But why would he refuse an assignment with Milwaukee's AAA affiliate only to be on the Yankees' AAA affiliate?Other players have left their organizations only to join other organizations in a lateral move. Sometimes it's just a change of scenery thing. Turnbow scares me with his command issues. But maybe he can revert to his 2005 form and be lightning in a bottle for some team. On the fence with this one.

If he wants to come here, he can strike people out, and that's always a good quality to have. We do have better options already though.
