:( oh no. Get well soon.

03-22-08, 10:23 AM
That's a shame. I hope he makes a fast and complete recovery.

BTW, can't believe he's 63.

03-22-08, 10:29 AM
Wow - very sad news. I'll keep him in my prayers..sounds like he wasn't experiencing any symptoms so that should be a good sign that it was caught earlier...

03-22-08, 10:33 AM
get well puff!

03-22-08, 10:35 AM
Oh no. :( How sad. I hope he does ok throughout his treatments and makes a full recovery.

03-22-08, 10:40 AM
I love that guy. I hope Graig and his brother fully rebound.

03-22-08, 11:10 AM
Good luck to Graig, my prayers are with him.

My father has prostrate cancer too, and he is doing well. Luckily, the treatments aren't as hard on the patient as people normally associate with cancer. He should be able to kick it if it didnt spread around..

Very sad news :(

My prayers are with Graig right know.

My favorite player as a kid. I still remember the poster I had of him in my room growing up. Hopefully it is slow-moving and treatable like he said in the article. Best wishes to him and his brother.

The source of my all-time favorite Yankees' quote:

When I was a kid, I wanted to play baseball and join the circus. With the Yankees, I've been able to do both.
Get well soon, Mr. Nettles. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

It says he was diagnosed around Thanksgiving but he opted not to have the surgery right away because he didn't want to miss Spring Training.

The doctors ok'd it because they said it's slow growing, but still. I think I would have opted for surgery ASAP.

Just sawthis ... best of luck with the surgery. Get well soon Puff!

Get well soon Graig.

One of the greatest injustices is the fact that #9 was retired for Roger Maris yet I always thought Graig was more deserving of that honor. JMO

I was lucky enough to meet Graig Nettles back in 1984 when he was with San Diego. It was a real fluke. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was on a business trip in Chicago and the Padres were staying in the same hotel. I bumped into him in the hotel lounge and he very graciously took a picture with me. The following year, I mailed a copy of the picture to him, which he autographed and mailed back to me. I have it hanging up in my den to this day.

I hope he'll be okay and I'll certainly be thinking about him and praying for him.

I met him at an autograph signing where I used to work last year (or the year before). A little brash (but who wouldn't be at an autograph signing) but overall a nice guy. Get well soon Graig.

My dad had the same thing, and had his surgery/treatments at MSKCC. He's in the best of hands there.

My grandfather currently has prostate cancer. I wish him the best of luck. I hope he gets rid of it and it never comes back- like it has to my grandfather. :(

Update on Graig:

Nettles 'positive, upbeat' after surgery
by Ed Price Wednesday April 09, 2008, 9:30 AM

Former Yankees star Graig Nettles will be released from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center tomorrow after undergoing a six-hour operation yesterday for prostate cancer, agent Tim O'Neill said today.

Nettles, 63, was diagnosed in November but decided to delay the surgery until after serving his annual stint as a spring-training instructor.

"He's resting comfortably," said O'Neill, of Morristown. "He'll be back home (in Tennessee) on Friday. He's very positive, upbeat."
