They have started the auction now and are removing seats to prepare the old girl for the wrecking ball.

This is the park as of last week

Great photographs. Thanks. Sad to see one of the great ballparks go down.

Wow, that place went to $hit fast. Its very said to see another treasure of the game fade away into history. How much are the seats going for?

My friend once saw a game there from the front row of the upper deck along the 3rd baseline. He said there was no dispute that those were those best seats in baseball. You were literally right on top of the field.

I'm very upset that I never got to see a game there. However, I believe that Comerica Park gets a bad rap because of how it replaced such a beloved stadium. If Comerica had replaced one of the cookie cutters like the ones from Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, it would get a lot more respect.

I agree with that sentiment. I loved Tiger Stadium, and there's no doubt you were almost on top of the field in many of the seating areas. And while I've only been to Comerica a few times, it's not a bad place to watch a ball game. Its biggest flaw is that it isn't Tiger Stadium.

Why is taking them 8 years to take it down?

Why is taking them 8 years to take it down?

A better question is: Why are they taking it down at all? History is more important than condos.

That's a genuine bargain, compared to the $500 or so that the Red Sox are getting for bleacher pairs (they're tearing up the bleachers after the season).

Detroit once was populated by over two million people; it was the fourth-largest US city.

It now holds under 900,000 people and isn't even a truly major metropolitan area anymore.

I truly LOVE abandoned building exploration, and Detroit is an incredible base for that. Just imagine 900,000 people occupying a city that once held 2,000,000 and has no money for demolition. I'm surprised they're bothering to demolish old Tiger Stadium what with the vast number of unused buildings that already rot within Detroit's borders:

this is very good. there should be some unofficial committee or group of fans (from the forum) who can do something like this for every one of the 81 home games (and additional playoff games) in the final year of Yankee Stadium. Shea too.

I got a single from the Dean Dome (Univ. North Carolina basketball) for free.
The school just threw them out when renovating.
