Thought I would start this thread. Starts this Wednesday at 10 on FX, no longer on Tuesdays.

A very quality show. With summer TV being limited, this is one bright spot. I am not sure I like the Wednesday change but I will be watching.

Said it in another thread but season 3 is where I lost interest. It's too over-the-top unreal and ridiculous storylines. Season 1 was great and Tommy Gavin has potential to be one of the most interesting characters ever, but the plot lines are too silly in season 3. It was like Leary just wrote as many scenes where he hooks up with hot women as he could fit in to 12 shows.

I can't wait for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" to return.

I can't wait for the new season. Maybe it will help soften the blow of The Sopranos being gone. So obviously we know he lives and doesnt die in the burning house because the show is coming back and I've seen the previews.

I guess the show has always been unreal. I mean....Tommy has had full blown conversations with his dead cousin and Jesus Christ. I guess it got hokey during Season 3, but I want to watch it just to see what's happened with everyone.

You could argue its from Tommy's perspective and Tommy is completely insane and its just how he sees the world.

I dunno. I stopped watching after he hooked up with his brother's ex wife, maybe i'll rent the DVDs.

I like how he saw the ghosts of people he couldn't save. That was gripping and moving. Pseudo-raping his wife, and hooking up with nympho teens while strangely hot, was just beyond believable.

Well, I love this show, but also agree with Rhody: it got a little ridiculous in season 3. It's still awfully funny, and every once in a while has a moment or two of extreme power and depth: I re-watched the season finale from last year, and the scene in front of the 9/11 Memorial is just so raw and tough, it's amazing. Another is the scene at the beginning of that episode, when Tommy is reminiscing about the firehouse before 9/11, with Garrity and Franco as probies, and Jimmy laughing about the Red Sox.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was disappointed in the season premier.
My husband actually got up and walked away.

It looks like they will be backtracking a lot. I take it somehow Sheila died and I think it was her ghost Tommy was talking to. But from what I can remember, I thought she had gotten out of the house and was in her car as the house went up in flames. In last night's episode, someone asked how Damien was (Sheila's son?) and Tommy said he's not doing so well not having his mom to take care of him, or something like that.

Did Janet have the baby last season? I don't remember that.

Oh good. I am glad I am not the only one who thought it was odd. It think they said it was 9 months later, hence the baby. I am also assuming Sheila is dead too, since the insurance investigators were after him.

Well, in the season finale last year, Sheila did go back into the house for Tommy after going out to her car.

I thought it was a little off. I was happy with parts of it (Chief Reilly, the scenes with Lou) but also sort of disappointed. The options were that Sheila is dead, and Tommy sees her ghost; Sheila faked her death; Sheila is alive, and the insurance adjusters were after Tommy because they think he had more reason that Sheila to burn the house down.

BillBuckner
06-14-07, 09:58 AM
I'm a little dissapointed with the opening episode. I have no idea whats going on with the whole Sheila thing, although the possibility of her dying in the fire is significant espeically if you consider how pissed Tommy's cousin was in the elevator. Other than a few quotes here and there, it also lacked the typical kneeslapping humor only Rescue Me can provide. Next week looks more promising though.

I thought it was a good episode as a whole but it sure did not answer very many questions. I thought alot of the dialogue was great though, like the whole schtick about facial expressions.

"You're look is befuddled?"
"Befuddled?"
"It means confused."
"I know what befuddled means."
"Yea cause Tommy just told you."

His cousin isn't a mess and he was in the WTC, right?
Either way, sometimes you just don't know when he is talking to a ghost until it becomes obvious.

Which doorbell did he ring?

When he got out of the elevator, he then walked down the hall and rang the doorbell to the apartment.

The cousin, is missing his finger, (all they found) and is pretty dissheveled.

They are after Tommy because he signed the papers taking out the insurance. I thought at first that Sheila was dead. Then when she showed up at the end I thought, well, maybe not. But it could have been someone else who let Tommy in but he is seeing Sheila because he sees dead people. If she is alive then that last scene implies that Tommy is in on some kind of insurance scam. I really don't think he would get involved with an insurance scam around a fire, though. Unless he feels guilty for Sheila buying that house and him backing out of the arrangement. A lot of questions need to be answered.

I think Sheila signed Tommy's name or got him to sign when he was out of it.
I mean, the only times he was drunk or passed out recently was because Sheila drugged him.

At first I was wondering why the actress that plays Sheila was at the premiere party if she was dead. But then I realized he sees dead people so she can still be a recurring character.

He went to Sheila's gyno to ask about her pregnancy since she was still telling him she was pregnant but bought Tampons. The doctor didn't want to give privileged info but he left the file on his desk and left Tommy in his office with it. I missed almost all of last season. The "Previously on Rescue Me" from last ep caught me up with what happened. Can't believe Johnny is dead. The guy in me sig is Hayden Christensen playing Anakin Skywalker. Yankees = Evil Empire. Evil Empire is from Star Wars. I'm going to have this little theme going on for a while now that we're winning a bit. That quote underneath the sig pic is a play on what he said in the movie because so many people said the Yankees would never be able to get close again. We're kind of close now. He did have a whole conversation with her in her apartment and she talked about getting offers on her property in the Hamptons. Could he be just imagining that, it didn't show that it was a dream or anything. They could be playing with us but it looked to me like she is alive.

Yeah, but Tommy routinely has conversations with dead people, so I didn't think it was odd that she could be dead.

When he has conversations with dead people it is usually in a context with other people around or in his own apartment. In this case he went to her apartment and had this whole conversation with her. So if he imagined the whole thing, the apartment and all, they are going for something new here. It is unlike his other dead people sightings in the past.

I liked last nights episode, it had a really good amount of humor in it especially the "blinders" part in the begining. The end was a real shocker. I have to go rewatch it because I kept running in and out getting something done. All in all I thought it was a good episode.

I love the show and have watched every episode. But, the way Janet controls Tommy is a joke. She is an unfit mother. All Tommy needs to do is get a lawyer and he will have his kids back. She bitched because he gave away the baby that she hated and did not want anything to do with. The interaction with the guys at the firehouse is hilarious. I would like to see more of that and less of Janet.

I don't particularly like Janet. I would also like to see more of the guys interacting. But the fights between Janet and Tommy are always interesting.

Sheila isn't much more fit a parent than Janet, but at least SHE wants the baby.

I think the dialogue in the firehouse is probably the strongest aspect of the show. It is what I look forward to every week. Lou cracks me up. I think it was him that said to Probey after the accident "Seatbelt, asshole". I thought the Garritty/Probey dialogue last week was great.

"Is that why the guys have been calling you Zippo?"

Garrity trying to be an alcoholic so he can join the family group (I had Long Island Iced Teas...2 of them. Well 2 1/2).

Janet stole the baby back from Sheila with the help of the younger daughter. Then Janet gave the baby to the older daughter for a few days so that she could help her take care of him. Janet started a new job and is seeing one of her co-workers.

Tommy told Colleen he didn't want her driving the baby around in an old clunker, so he agreed to get her a newer car if she would tell him where Janet worked and who the guy is.
Tommy got the baby from Colleen (she doesn't want to be bothered with a baby) and he took him to Sheila's apartment. He told Sheila that Colleen doesn't want the baby and Janet will get tired of him, so she should hold out and will get the baby eventually.

Same thing happened to me and this show last year. I was all psyched for the start of it, then I just didn't feel the need to watch it after about a month. It's a good show. Season 1 is amazing, but since then it's gotten too loony and unrealistic.

Best show on the tube. It may seem far fetched for some, but it shows an extreme take on life. It is helps those with mental health issues and shows that there is hope through all that life throws at us for our choices. I find it sad how Tommy always loses someone he loves. I was surprised that his father died, plus how mike old shawn loved Tommy's sister, and that the new fire captain was section 8'ing Tommy.

I have to pick up season one on DVD.

Can someone PM me an update. I didn't watch the past few years. It got a little ridiculous for my tastes. It's like Denis Leary just writes scenes where he gets to hook up with hot girls. The last storyline I remember is him and Marissa Tomei and the stupid rookie guy being sorta gay. I'm willing to give it another shot as I heard Adam Ferrera is in it this year but I dont' have time to search out and watch the 20 or so episodes I've missed. Thanks!
