If the Yanks take Porcello, it is going to be a major headache as per signing. Not saying it isn't a great idea....but they'll be facing SIGNIFICANT pressure from both sides- Porcello's in terms of not losing out on your only pick in the beginning of the draft to college, and MLB in terms of slotting.

This is true. And Porcello himself will be in a pressure cooker, its like an Eli Manning thing (not that bad, but you get the idea)

Selig can stick it. If they draft him, they will do it knowing his price.

No problem. Write the check for 10 million bucks, sign it, and tell Selig to go cry somewhere else.

Tigers AND the Giants are possible hurdles here

Giants could take a flier on Porcello, let him go to NC if he won't sign, and take the 29th pick next year

From what I've heard, teams usually don't take players unless they plan on making an honest offer so they don't piss off players/agents and other teams. I don't think they'll take him if he's available but who knows.

You're right about the Boras factor - but George loves to stick it to Bud. It probably means the Yankees announce the signing on August 14th...

no matter who we pick, they're going to be dubbed "over-rated" or a "big project" by our "esteemed" anchors here

Julio Borbon will be at 30. Damon isn't going to be at CF forever, and Borbon will probably be ready fast.

06-07-07, 04:53 PM
why would we select a guy with arm problems? We should of took Harvey

Yanks21
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
I hope this kid doesn't need surgery...

yankeetke
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
I would rather have Matt Harvey but Brackman was a top 5 choice until the dead arm and signability, but Brackman did go to my alma matter so GO STATE and the Yankees of course.

The Dynasty
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
Ouch :(

Kulish29
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
Terrible. Just effing terrible. I waited all this time for them to take a player that probably would've been there in the 2nd round. I'm pissed.

WeekendWarrior
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
Of course he is doing what the GREAT THEO EPSTEIN is doing. What a Joker

Mark19
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
hey, you can never have too many injured busts

trapper700
06-07-07, 04:53 PM
lame... we get our own version of bard, except already with injury concerns

06-07-07, 04:54 PM
from Porcello to Brackman... my day is ruined.

Kulish29

Steph19
06-07-07, 04:54 PM
I'm actually okay with this... If the Yankees selected him, I'm confident that they are okay with his health reports. If he's healthy, he's got a higher ceiling than Harvey, Porcello, maybe even Price.

albo4lyfe
06-07-07, 04:54 PM
Andrew Brackman. Hell Yeah!

AcidLake
06-07-07, 04:54 PM
Why all the hate? I like this pick... I'm not really worried this. If he can get healthy, he'd be great pick just like Joba Chamberlain

TacoBomber
06-07-07, 04:55 PM
We love injured pitchers, any way we can get them: trades, FA, now the draft....

Big Game Andy
06-07-07, 04:55 PM
Jim Callis, of course trashing this pick..

WeekendWarrior
06-07-07, 04:55 PM
HAHAHA. Brackman is not actually an NBA quality player. What a joke

OlgMvp
06-07-07, 04:55 PM

JavyVazquezIsSick
06-07-07, 04:56 PM

BklynYankees
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
wow what if this guy has to have tommy john surgery.

montyque
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
6'10"? Holy cow. That's Randy height.

gold23
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
Hmm.....he's a college kid. Even if he has the surgery, he'll still be ahead of the curve of a high schooler's development. Seriously- the stuff is there. I don't mind this pick at all.

AcidLake
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
I believe Kennedy, Chamberlain both had injury issues in their last year

Anyway, I still think every one was angrier on us picking Kennedy than this pick

jbauer2485
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
Terrible pick.

Steph19
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
Let's pray that the Sox don't get Harvey.

06-07-07, 04:56 PM
Sounds like Joba part 2. I'll take it.

06-07-07, 04:56 PM

tdel23
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
i'm going to give Cash and Oppenheimer the benefit of the doubt before I declare it a horrible pick, they have had some sucess in the draft lately, i think they know what they are doing.

CallOfTheCrow
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
I'm actually okay with this... If the Yankees selected him, I'm confident that they are okay with his health reports. If he's healthy, he's got a higher ceiling than Harvey, Porcello, maybe even Price.

Yeah Im sure they were confident in Pavano's health reports too

Kulish29
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
Smoker and Harvey were right friggin there and had no injury concerns but instead they go with the guy who was dropping down draft boards like a lead balloon. I just dont get it.

sahara
06-07-07, 04:56 PM
I was pissed last year and that turned out more than okay.

Hopefully the same will hold true this year.

albo4lyfe
06-07-07, 04:57 PM
Brackman is a beast. Come on guys. Now, with the 55th pick in the draft the Boston Red Sox select Matt Harvey?

yankeesmarc923
06-07-07, 04:57 PM
Please God, let one of the next 24 picks take Harvey

BrandonA33
06-07-07, 04:57 PM
They give this guy high ceiling if healthy...I guess I can be excited about that

YASS
06-07-07, 04:57 PM
Risky pick, but nobody can deny Brackman has a helluva ceiling if he's healthy.

He's a much better pick than Lugo, anyway.

Haywood2K6
06-07-07, 04:57 PM
Wow, I seriously thought it was a no doubt Harvey pick there, I am shocked we took Brackman, shocked.
