Porcello Can Get Comfortable

Posted Jun. 7, 2007 3:00 pm by Alan Matthews: I think there’s a good chance that the Yankees will draft Porcello at No. 30, because his price tag could be as much as $8 million, and the nine teams between now and the Yankees are not likely to try to sink that type of cash into him.

LecheCaberera2826
06-07-07, 04:11 PM
i hope now that it seems eminent that detroit will take porcello that some other team takes him. But what gets me is that Detroit doesn't need any more power arms, they have such a log jam in their rotation it just wouldn't make sense to me for them to take a power arm.

This "Porcello is automatically gone" thing is silliness. Unfounded ideas on this site tend to snowball sometimes. Maybe Detroit is more likely to take him now, but not much more. If they wanted him in the first place badly then they would have taken him, Alderson or no. Its not like he is a 2nd rate substitute for Alderson

there is rumored to be a 'suprise' team, in on Porcello. Who might it be...

With the remaining picks, the only plausible surprise team is the Giants with their third pick.

A's? No way. Twins? No way. Everyone thinks the Tigers may take him, so no surprise there.

That is, if this rumor has any validity.

The Sox won't have a chance at Porcello.

The Yanks want Porcello, they will draft him for those two reasons. 1) They want him badly 2) They are aware of the ramifications if they do pass on him.

It's a no brainer, it's just a matter of him slipping past the Tigers.

Here's what Matthews had to say:

The Rangers were considered the team that was most likely to take Porcello, who is advised by Scott Boras, at No. 17, but they went with Blake Beavan, a Hendricks Brothers client, instead.
