It's a universal fan phenonenon, like making up lopsided trades for their team that the other team would never make in a million years. Go read a Padres fan board and they're probably complaining that the Giants play them tough but bend over for the D-Backs. While the D-Backs fans complain that the Rockies bend over for the Dodgers. Of course the players want the best competition. They are the best of the best, supremely confident, with ice water in their veins, and any other cliche you would like to add.

Eh.....wouldn't mind making a run at the division, but feeling pretty good about the postseason anyway.

If the Sox play Cleveland, would be a mistake for them to choose the spread out series due to the Cleveland top end pitching and lack of depth on their staff. So it would leave the Yanks with the Angels and Wang/Pettite for four out of five games. Love that matchup, to be honest.

Nah....any team that hits a game winning HR in the 9th, down by a run, is going to act that way. Yanks have when A-rod has walked off this year.

Ortiz still has horrific clutch numbers this year....that's the one thing that'll piss me off over the next few days. When A-rod would hit a big hr over the past two years before this one, it would always be qualified by the "experts" as him not doing it consistently. Ortiz has been beyond bad this year in clutch spots (the numbers are simply putrid), yet will be hailed as having broken out of that with one swing.

That'll be the interesting part. The O's are gonna stink- the Yanks should pummel them. They don't have ANY pitching anymore with their injuries and the few overperforming guys coming back to earth. The Drays also caught the Yanks when they had a few pitchers stringing together two or three good starts. That is no longer the case, so we'll see.

In the long run, I don't think anything matters all that much. The chances of the O's and Rays dominating the Yanks is slim, meaning the TIgers will need to play out of their minds to catch even a mediocre Yankee ending.

Sox are not as good as they appear. Pitching is becoming suspect and offensive production is going to be sparse even with Ramirez.

Sox are not a very good team right now. They have a very good #1, a fantastic closer, and Ortiz who is hitting much better of late. Their offense as a whole is mediocre (with Youkilis dropping off the cliff, they really only have a few above average hitters for their positions). The pitching- while deep- is not that strong. Schilling is a finesse pitcher, Matsuzaka has been horrific, and Wakefield has been poor or injured of late and at his best is a middle rotation guy. The pen has Okajima, who is pitching like a decent but not great reliever since the league has had a few looks, and has a fantastic closer behind ok other pitchers.

All in all, to me they are a legit playoff team that is not as good as the Yankees or Angels. And out of the three playoff teams, if the Yanks reached the ALCS I'd prefer to play the Sox over the other two likely clubs.
