Gagne only throwing 92. Does he need some more of the juice? :)

I agree with that. I love Robby Cano's game. He reminds me so much of Rod Carew - he is a special talent with the bat. I also agree about letting time prove this out - good discussion - thanks.

eh i dont like the Carew comparisons...I think Cano has his own style

And either Gameday is screwing up or this ump is terrible for both sides

As we saw with Wang tonight....

But seriously, have you actually watched this guy pitch? He has really amazing stuff.
Not the fastball, which is Foulkian. The obvious question is whether he maintains the consistency and control with his off-speed stuff. I don't see it as him staying lucky so much as whether he can keep having better than expected control.

Except this is the third consecutive MLB seson in a row where Wang is proving he doesnt need to K guys. When Okajima gets the equilevant amounts of ip(for a reliever) as Wang then i will believe.

 Excellent post. People don't appreciate just how good Aaron Small was that year just because his stuff wasn't impressive. But his control was outstanding; he attacked the strike zone and kept batters off balance with a respectable changeup. I've always wondered what he might have done had he not gotten injured right from the get go Spring Training in 2006. I also speculated in 2006 that Chacon would put it back together after building his arm and leg strength back to 2005 levels--and he's certainly shown that this year. These rookies have nothing on Small and Chacon--they may have better stuff (in the case of Desalvo, I doubt that, even), but they are far from better pitchers.

agreed. chacon was brillaint for us and if he and small had not have gotten injured in the beginning of 2006, i suspect one of them still might be pitching in the bronx now. small was ligthening in a bottle stuff (great!) but chacon is decent pitcher who given stability could have produced for us.

oh well.

the rookie are be far a better option in terms of going forward, however. the list given above are all talented. we don't have to look for 7 aces but 5 major league picthers.

This doesn't have too much to do with the Yankees, but did anyone notice that the Cubs/Astros game was very similar to the Yankees/Jays game yesterday?

Wang and Zambrano are the Yankees'/Cubs' best pitchers and both have great W/L record. They both got lit up yesterday by their division rivals. Yankees and Cubs have played very well last month to catch up in the Wild Card races.

keep in mind they won 2 of 3. I know they should have won with Lester going for the Red Sox, but its an improvement.

Considering that the Sox missed both Lackey and Escobar, facing Saunders and whoever that guy was last night it's a good thing Anaheim took 2 out of 3.

Thank god for Tampa coming up huge!!!

Now we just have to root for the O's to get hot both tonight against Cleveland and this weekend against the Sox.

The goal for the Yankees needs to be get a comfortable lead on both Cleveland and Detroit (and wait for Seattle to finally come back to earth) then focus and taking back what's rightfully ours from Boston!

Detroit and Minnesota lose :D Nice

Detroit loses 8-1 with Bonderman on the mound. Yes it was against Kazmir, but it was at home with a lineup full of big righty bats, and you know you can beat that bullpen if you just get the starter out.

Minnesota loses 1-0 to KC ... and keep in mind they had 1st and 2nd with one out in the 8th and Mauer at the plate.

Both teams are in "must win" mode and both "should have" won their games. It's good to keep these things in mind when we all melt down over a Yankee loss. These things happen.

Regarding the Twins I think it's in the best interest right now for the Yanks that the Twins stay somewhat close to contention ( 5-7games out will be fine) They play all the teams the Yanks are fighting for a playoff spot.
Seattle 6 games
Cleveland 6 games
detroit 6 games
Boston the last 4 games of the season.
If they are out of it too quickly you might see them go in the tank.

Thats exactley right. To win the division and to win a playoff birth the Yankees need to win SERIES, as much as I would love to see it I highly doubt the Yankees will win every game for the rest of the season.
