View Full Version : Keepers Thread
It looks like we will have the auction on the 20th or 22nd. I'd like to have Keepers declared by the 14th.
Keeper rules:
You must keep 7-12 players.
Minor leaguers do not count towards the 7-12. To keep someone in the minors, they must not have 50 IP or 130 AB for their career.
Players with an asterisk next to their contract, such as 1 year*, can not be kept in 2007. Players with a multi-year deal MUST be kept, or you lose $1 in auction value for each year left.
Renewing a contract: You may renew a player for one year at their old salary, after which they cannot be renewed or signed again long-term.
Multi-year deal: You may sign a player to a 2-4 year contract, with their salary increasing $4 for each year of the deal. Example: Barney Rubble was taken last year for $4. He had a monster season. He can signed as:
Option (renew): 2007, $4. (1 year/$4)
Two-year deal: 2007, $12; 2008, $12. (2 years/$24)
Three-year deal: 2007, $16; 2008, $16; 2009, $16 (3 years/$48)
Four-year deal: 2007, $20; 2008, $20; 2009, $20; 2010, $20. (4 years/$80)
PLEASE...when posting your keepers, give:
Player name, MLB team, Position, Contract length.
Position is important, especially with players with multiple eligibility so I can pre-select them in the auction site.
This doesn't apply to my team does it?

Hmm. Why shouldn't it? You're a GM coming in taking over an existing franchise.
Which team did you assume, by the way?
For some reason I remember a discussion about not having keepers...maybe it was in the other thread.
I took over Steve's team, I think.

Yeah, looking at it, I would either take his team or Mets Magic. I actually think Mets Magic may have the better keepers overall. Steve's team has a killer young staff that you can protect, though.
I don't think I was given an option; I was just assigned to that team.

So let me see if I have this correct:
I still have Jermaine Dye, Kevin Mench, Chien-Ming Wang, Rich Harden, Roy Halladay and Jason Lane under contract.
I still have Markakis, Danks and Bankston because they were my minor league picks.
I am expected to keep how many more? and can I sign my minor leaguers to extensions?
Sorry for being dumb, still have a bit to learn about managing a keeper auction league team.
Sorry, was at work;
Yes, new teams get keepers.
Yes, I assigned GDN to Steve's team, which finished highest in the standings of any non-returning team. I figured as each new owner came in, they would get a team that finished lower in the standings.

Sounds like you have 10 assuming Markakis, Danks and Bankston have used up their rookie eligibility. You can keep players in your minor leagues, who still have rookie eligibility (50 IP, 130 AB) with no restrictions.

What are ya gonna do with Liriano? Up until I decided I had to give this league up I was torn on a decision. You got a few guys like Hamels, Sanchez and Uggla. Not as many as I would have liked but I really tried to win last year, I wasn't in it for the future. Came up short the last month with a few injuries and guys just falling down at the worst time. We had a good race in late August/early September though.
Where do I find the contracts for my players?
I don't know about Liriano...I might be tempted to keep him.
Nevermind, I got it. So the players I cannot keep or don't want to keep, do I have to drop them or just not do anything?

Once a player is a MLer he stays that way. You cannot keep him as a minor leaguer. You gonna give him a long contract? I thought it was a good idea to take the hit next year for the future. You're not really wasting keepers since you get so many and if you're smart in the draft you'll have money to spare. I think last year I had something like $20 left.

Yes, you simply lose $1 of auction money for each year remaining on his contract. So if he has one year left (2007) you will have only $259 for the auction, instead of $260. Or in your case, $258 beacuse of the -$1 penalty for Pettitte.
