Just announced today. I saw it on www.nytimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com).
Now, they just have to hire a new GM and a few other things.

The immediate future looks bleak. Coughlin did a bad job this year and he should've been fired.

This must mean they're hiring the in house candidate for GM (I think his name is Reece). Otherwise it makes no sense to hire the coach before the GM.

Wow. I thought Coughlin would be gone since they're bringing in a new GM. Still, you wonder what could have been for Coughlin and the Gmen if not for those crippling injuries. I'm sure that factored in to the decision.

Awful decision, imo.
Captain discipline really needs find a way to connect with his players.

I thought he would have got the AXE. A one year contract extension . I would have bet against that.

I'm not sure if I have a problem with it.
Most of our problems with losing in the last 2 years has been because of bad luck on the injury front.
2005 - Strahan, Pierce etc
2006 - Strahan, Arrington, Toomer, Shockey etc
If we can stay healthy...I dont see how he Coughlin can mess it up.

Hurray for another year chock full of false starts, offensive holdings, and personal fouls.

I don't really want to find out.
I think it was obvious that the injury problems played a part but there were other glaring issues that need to be addressed as well. Penalties, Play Calling, Pass Coverage and Offensive and Defensive Game Plans come to mind.
Guess there isn't really a choice now but to wait and watch what the new excuses will be.

Bringing back Allie Sherman would be a better move than this.

well guys look at the 2004 season the Giants went 11-5 and Tom has had a lot of sucess in the NFL he just needs to get over with some of his players and him and the Giants will be fine.

i can understand bringing him back this season, its hard to fire a coach after consecutive playoff appearances. but the extension is just insane! they should have let this year play out if the chemistry and discipline improve then offer the extension.

I'm sorry, but the Giants were a piss-poor excuse for a playoff team. Blame it on injuries all you want, bottom line is if the NFC wasn't a joke this year, they wouldn't have made it. Coughlin needs to go. The man's whole schtick is what a strict disciplinarian he is, and yet his team is top 5 in penalties year after year. Something ain't right.

I tend to agree with you on this, Sweetie.
Just from what I've seen, it sure seemed to me that the Giants' biggest problem was themselves. Man, there were just so many glaringly effing STUPID crap that I saw happen.
If that crap happened with my team, I'm sure that I'd be screaming for the coach's head, too.
